BARBERTON: As high school students waited at bus stops Tuesday morning, police began receiving 911 calls from Fifth Street, all the way from Robinson Avenue in Barberton to state Route 619 in New Franklin.
The reports were nearly all the same. An older woman was pointing a rifle at pedestrians as she drove by, threatening to kill them.
Barberton and New Franklin police charged Sheila L. Kinsey, 61, of Coventry Township, with a felony charge of carrying a concealed weapon and misdemeanor charges of inducing panic and two counts of aggravated menacing.
Kinsey made an initial appearance Tuesday before Barberton Municipal Judge Greg Macko who set bond at $20,000.
High school students waiting for the bus at Fifth Street and Robinson Avenue told police Kinsey pointed a gun out the car window at them, saying, ''They're going to kill me, so I might as well kill them.''
Police received several 911 calls from a business when Kinsey pulled into its lot and got out of her car holding the rifle. She reportedly threatened to kill one of the witnesses.
Police stopped Kinsey as she was driving out of the lot. They confiscated the rifle and a handgun found during a search of her home.
Barberton Police Chief Michael Kallai said Kinsey was obviously confused and seemed unaware of the seriousness of her actions.
Kinsey is due back in court Friday.
