Ohio Supreme Court denies stay of execution for Cooey

By Beacon Journal staff

The Ohio Supreme Court this afternoon denied a motion from convicted double murderer Richard Cooey to stay his execution, scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility near Lucasville.

A court spared Cooey, of Akron, five years ago, when he was just 12 hours from execution.

Cooey was sentenced to death for the 1986 murder, rape and robbery of University of Akron juniors Wendy Offredo and Dawn McCreery.

The bible says to give to God what is God's and to give to Caesar(the State of Ohio)what is Caesars.
In this case, Caesar wants Cooey dead. So be it.

I have never believed in the death penalty. I do not believe there is ever a situation when it is ok to take the life of another.

Colleen, then you are against abortion. As far as Cooey, you believe that the tax payers should pay to keep him incarsorated. I believe they need to build an electric chair that seats 6.

I hope he is feeling ten times more fear than his victims did the night he murdered them!!! At least they didn't have to spend 24 hours knowing it was going to happen--only 3!

So sorry, I guess they will have to use more death meds., or less just to watch you squirm, and beg for mercy. Or maybe we could just bludgeon you to death. You showed no mercy with those two innocent girls, why should we. An eye for an eye, my faith says. I'm tired of our tax dollars paying for your dumb fat butt. Its time to meet your maker.

I am so tired about hearing about prisoners rights. He had the right for the taxpayers to feed him, clothe him an house him for 22 years. Now he has thge right to die the same as those poor girls he murdered and the taxpayers have the right to say, you are getting what you deserve. An eye for an eye.

Just do it already! I'm so sick of hearing about this story. Those girls never had a say to what happened to them.
Be a man and stand up for what you did! Hey maybe your last meal could be from KFC!

It is always sad whenever these things have to happen. Coleen, I understand your feelings but justice is not about your feelings. Reality needs to take precedence over sentimentality. He needs to die. I don't have to like it, but he needs to die.

I remember the day 22 years ago, as though it were yesterday...the fear that was in the air...the sadness for someone I didn't even know...it was sickening...on Tuesday morning at 10:05 am the fear, sadness and sickening feeling will be replaced. It will finally be over.
