I'll give him credit for one thing and one thing only. If you weren't going to apologize for the past twenty two years why start now. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he was put down and clearly it's been far to long in the making as he's spent more time in prison then his victims lived. Hopefully this can bring some sort of closure for the families involved but I doubt it. I personally believe that prison is a harsher penalty than death, in my eyes he got the easy way out.

1) He shouldn't get a final say. The families of the victims should get a final say to HIM.

2) He shouldn't get this fabulous "last meal" either. We're going to spend tax payer dollars to feed him a last meal to make him what, "feel better" before he gets executed? PLEASE!

3) Regarding his remains...give them to the girl's families and let them dispose of them in a trash dump. That's about as much respect as his remains deserve.

I've waited 22 years for this. And I now realize that I don't feel any better. Maybe I actually feel worse. I guess it's not my place to cheer for or argue against the punishment of this man. The people that have earned this say are the ones whose lives were affected by the damn actions taken that night. Honestly, I hope there's relief of some type all around. I'll say a prayer for your soul, Richard. However, I have no idea where it is headed. Sincerely, I hope you made your peace to the Big Guy.

I AM against abortion. You know why? Because it is an INNOCENT LIFE that is being taken.

Richard Cooey is NOT an innocent life. He lured, kidnapped, raped and slaughtered these two girls.

I am FOR the death penalty when the case clearly shows NO DOUBT that the person committed a heinous crime. There is NO DOUBT!

His actions show he died angry and bitter because he got caught and his life has been caged like the animal he was. He got to spend 2 maybe or 3 free days after he killed those girls and since then has been caged. He tried to act like he didn;t care and to throw it up in his victims families faces but in the end he died like a little punk. He was owned by the system for 22 years. God only knows what they did to him every day he was there and I would thank the staff at these prisons for making his life as miserable as possible. His last words sum up his whole nonexistant life which was spent caged like an animal. No one listened to me and no one cared. He got the point exactly right. Thank God he's dead

I'm all for capitol punishment but I wish it didn't take 20 to years to put down these killers. How many appeals did his victims get to file before he killed them?

Colleen, I wonder how you would feel if this had been your sister/daughter/mother/best fried that he had killed? When I was younger I was naive like you and did not believe that we had the right to judge and sentence someone to death. But...after years of seeing monsters like this supported by my taxes, being fed three squares a day, having exercise machines, computers, tv's, conjugal visits, it doesn't seem like there is any consequence to the violent acts that they have committed. He was obviosly well fed by our system because he was so concerned about the injection not working and that he might suffer. If criminals realized that their were serious consequences for their actions maybe they would think twice before committing these horrendous crimes. As it stands...many have better lives inside than they would if they had to live and support themselves. I prayed for those two girls and their families when this crime was commited and I am praying for them again. May the Lord bless them all.

I think life in prison with no chance of parol ever is the best punishment. I will never believe in the death penalty. To those that do, would you like to be the one that administers the drugs to put someone to death? Not me!

And please don't tell me that it is a waste of taxpayers money to keep guys like him in prison. We shell out a lot more to human baby factories and wars. Not to mention the money spent on political conventions and shooting crap into outer space.

Colleen - the problem with life in prison with no chance for parole is how is that TRULY punishment for the heinous of heinous crimes like this one?

The family then never gets closure because the criminal, like Cooey, keeps his name in the papers and his voice on the tv...day after day, month after month, year after year.

the death penalty is not to be meant as "punishment". Most would want death over living in a prison environment for 40-60 years. It is meant to show those thinking of doing the same crime that they will pay when they are caught. One's life is required of them if one takes another person's life.

Lethal injection is to easy. The death penalty was designed to give the ultimate punishment and never was it suppose to be painless and humane. That's the punishment part of it. It's really hard for me to condone people celebrating a person's death. What he and Clint did was digusting and the justice system finally took it's course. However, partying over someone's death is barbaric. I will tell you right now if this man had apologized and tried to get help in prison and ask for repentence I would have said commute him to life. But this guy was truely an animal and did none of that. Trying to escape on top of that. I think Justice was finally rendered. However, being happy to see someone die is wrong on many counts imo.

I am not partying over his death but I definitely am not feeling any sorrow over it either. He deserved worse than what he received. Personally, I would not mind at all putting monsters like him to death. BUT... I think that they should have done to them whatever they did to their victims. Death by lethal injection or even the electric chair is much too civilized for them. Put them through the same pain, torture and fear that they put their victims through. I wrote something similar to this and it did not show up, so please forgive me if I am repeating myself. I was a victim of crime. Instead of hating the person that victimized me, I forgave him. That way, I was able to get rid of the attachment to the crime. There is way too much good to live for without living in the past and living in fear.

And no David, I have no statistics that show unborn children have ever committed the crimes you asked in your question below. I don't believe I have made the statement they do. My point was, how could you not believe in abortion, but believe in capital punishment? A human life is a human life, and we are all children of God.

my son was tortured and murdered a couple of years ago. i did not wish to see his murderes put to death. all though they committed such a dispicable and heinous crime aginst my son. but i wanted them to stay alive. and have a miserable exitentance. and if they still had a conciance it would eat at them every day. i didnt even care how long they spent in jail. but i did want them to do some jail time. and never ware a badge agin. but do to the gross neglancence of the crime sceene unit. and the fact they cleaned the cell before the unit was called in. and the fact that no finger prints were taken off the weapons, the area was not sealed off, nor the fact they put the tasers in the wrong boxes. shows there lack of compatance. its amazing with out all the advances with science in the past 22yrs. that they were ever able to catch the killers. but i guess back in the day you actually had to investigate. unlike the bummbling idiots we have running around today. maybe it was just partialty in my case. after all they were supposed to be investigating law enforcement. it takes alot of time to get justice in summit county i know.

The way I feel about it is if you knowingly commit a crime, then you should reap the punishment. That's what happened to Cooey today. (finally)
I support the death penalty. Life in prison is a joke to most of these monsters. (read up on Richard Speck, among others. Heck, Ted Bundy even got married and fathered a kid while in prison) These killers don't feel what most people feel. remorse, guilt...it's a game.In their hearts, many aren't sorry for what they've done; they're only sorry they got caught. In their minds, THEY are the victims. It's played up and suddenly there's a big debate. No debate in my mind: you kill---you die. That's the law. Doesn't do any good if we, the people, don't abide by it, as well.

Why not banish criminals like Cooey to total isolation. No contact from anyone. No communcations of any kind. No outside world permitted to enter, or their word to be released to the outside world. No release from their cell for the rest of their life. Friends, this total isolation will bring on their death sooner at their own hands than by ours. Their jury of peers, their judges, their victims, and all others will not have to concern themselves when to push the plunger or pull the switch.

What that's saying is, human life is that valuable...if you murder someone, you need to pay with your own life. The death penalty, therefore, affirms the value of human life.

That's why it's not contradictory to be pro-death penalty and anti-abortion.
