Beacon Journal staff report
YRC Worldwide Inc., parent of Roadway trucking in Akron, said Wednesday it will cut 15 percent of its work force in a cost-reduction move.
It's part of an accelerated plan to integrate the company's Roadway and Yellow Transportation units.
The nation's largest trucking company said it will lay off about 3,750 drivers and dockworkers as it blends the units.
Job cuts were widely expected after the company sped up the integration last month.
Yellow and Roadway employees are represented by the Teamsters union.
The Overland Park, Kan.-based company has about 25,000 employees.
It said last week its third-quarter earnings fell 10 percent from a year earlier. But excluding some one-time items, YRC reported a much wider loss than Wall Street expected.

What a shocker, we all saw it coming
IMAGINE THAT ! They will CONTINUE to destroy Roadway , Oh well everyone said FIVE YEARS , and it has BEEN 5years
I'm surprised that anti-trust laws allowed this acquisition in the first place. Then they both operated in the same markets for 5 years. How could they have not been in collusion. I also heard that they're outsourcing some positions out of the country. Makes one wonder how long it will be before the offices on Gorge Blvd will be vacated.
Roadway use to be a debt free company. They are too top heavy with managers and supervisors. It is sad to see the company so mismanaged. They have supervisors with no one reporting to them and in the same department supervisors with 7-10 reports. What is wrong with this picture? They must cut a lot of the top heavy management. A good place to start would be with Bill Zollars.
