Early voters nearly a third of expected total, official says

80 percent turnout predicted Tuesday in Summit

By Kathy Antoniotti
Beacon Journal staff writer

Summit County Board of Elections Deputy Director Bryan Williams estimates that as many as 90,000 Summit County voters, or 30 percent of the total expected voter turnout, will have cast ballots before Election Day.

That could translate into shorter lines and less waiting for traditional voters Tuesday at the polls, he said.

''It will be very manageable," Williams told board members today.

At some polling places, greeters will be assigned to help prevent needless waits in the wrong lines, he said.

''The poling places are staffed more than ever before,'' Williams said.

Voters who chose to wait until Tuesday to vote might experience a rush of people at peak times, such as between 6:30 and 9:30 a.m. as they vote on their way to work, Williams said.

This year, for the first time, Summit County voters have the option of casting an absentee ballot without an excuse. As of this morning, about 38,000 people had already voted at the Job Center at 1040 E. Tallmadge Ave. The remainder have either sent or delivered their ballots to the Board of Elections, or will do so before the polls close Tuesday.

Today was the last day for absentee voting and mailed ballots must be postmarked by today to be counted.

Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner estimates the state could see an 80 percent voter turnout, or more than 305,000 voters in Summit County, for the presidential election, Williams said.

The board also discussed several problems with absentee ballots today, including those cast by enthusiastic voters who not only filled in the oval beside a candidates name, but voted for the person a second time as a write-in candidate on the same ballot.

Those ballots, called double bubbles by board members, will be remade by two member teams who will identify and remake the ballots so the scanners can count them. Board workers will have until 5 p.m. Tuesday to finish, when the board will meet again.

Board members delayed decisions until Tuesday on several issues that involve determining voter intent, seeking opinions from Brunner before voting.

The questionable ballots, which could number 500 to more than 1,000, will be scanned following board approval.

I voted early at the Jobs Center yesterday and I am thinking the double bubble thing is because Obama and McCain are way down the list on the ballot.

For all the Lefties who decry the Bush tax cuts, you all have benefitted from them. For example:

For a married family, filing jointly and earning $75,000 a year, the Bush savings are $3,074
For a married family, filing jointly and earning $50,000, the Bush savings are $1,512.
For a married family, filing jointly and earning $25,000, the Bush savings are $715.

So you need to understand it worked at all income levels !!!

What a joke. You are witnessing the buying and stealing of an election. You are witnessing history all right. I have no doubt if obama is elected, he will use his brown shirts to make sure he is dictator for life.

RICH DEMOCRATS but POOR RELATIVES

Recently there has been the surfacing of a destitute relative of Barack Obama, his Aunt Zeituni, whom the Times of London tracked down last week in a rundown public housing project in South Boston.

It is hardly surprising that Obama has impoverished relatives, given that his father was from a Third World country. Obama would not be the first president to have family members of considerably lower socioeconomic status than himself -- think presidential brothers Billy Carter and Roger Clinton.

Why are rich presidents with destitute relatives -- Carter, Clinton, and potentially Obama, for example -- always Democrats? Do they horde their money? Where is their charity? They want to redistribute other folks' money, so why don't they help their own relatives???

Amazing what free thinking Americans will turn to out of desperation. Accusations, false pretense, even lies - and all because of fear.

I was here when JFK ran for president, and everyone was in fear that the Vatican was going to run the country. Didn't happen.

This, too, will pass.

Won't be 6 months before he starts the Whitey Tax to give welfare money to his lazy, stupid black "bruthas". Mark my words. Social programs will be invented to continue to encourage blacks to stay unemployed and live off Whitey.

This could be a bad day. A darkie day if you will....

Last time I checked, whites had a majority on welfare. You need to recalcuate your figures there Ray.

Tomorrow is Election Day, Those that vote GOP will be voting for what we believe in.
Those Voteing for the DNC ticket, will be voting for more false promises than I can write about:
1) the Pre Bush tax cut rates where 6% higher for everyone. So get ready for a TAX INCREASE, if you work.
2) Health Care for us all at affordable rates; well if your a Congressman and make $135K a year, yeah it will be affordable.
3) Your rights to own a hand gun or rifle: will depend if you can honestly say I have the bullets in a vault in Utah, and I am hunting Deer in PA. Bang, why did the deer not fall down.
4) Every school will be entitled to a $3M Planetarium as long as it is Pork Barrel, and not cut with the scalpel.
BS this will aply to available energy efficient autos in 10 years if not cut by Nancy Pelosi and her nit wits Franks and company.
I am so glad I make $250K last year and this, Now I can retire and not worry anymore if I'll be broke by May 1st.

Sam - how is Obama a socialist? Please break it down for me. How is Bush not a socialist? Did he not sign the bailout - which nationalized the banks? I see - when your party does it, it is good. When Democrats do it (or are being said that they do it) they it's bad? Why don't you talk to you actual guy running under the socialist platform? He'll tell you how NOT socialist Obama is.

McCain is no friend of coal.

Analysis by the U.S. Energy Information Administration in May, 2004:

"Under S. 139 (McCain's bill), the reductions in U.S. coal production...are estimated to be 14 percent in 2010 and 78 percent in 2025."

You are incorrect Jack. By PERCENTAGE, not total of numbers, but PERCENTAGE, there are more black people on welfare than white.

Examples?

Akron is allegedly 12% black.

Who gets the welfare and food stamps (and section 8 housing) in Akron?

At this late hour, let's stop and hear from the Gipper. He had a few words to say about Muammar Quadaffi, who is now supporting Senator Obama.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l18MKmarVTw

We need to perhaps, "connect the dots." It is not Reverend Wright's bombastic sermonizing, but his actions. What was he doing in Libya visiting Muammar Quadaffi BEFORE Muammar's Berlin bombing in 1986? We have Obama, Wright, and lastly, Muammar Quadaffi, has too often been left out of the troika. We're here today because someone dealt with Quadaffi in the 80's.

Visit www.campuschangers.com for informative videos...especially the unusual one where Obama calls for a "nationalized" police.

And another PS, stating a fact is NOT racist and never will be. Visit YouTube and look at the videos mentioned above. See what REAL Obama people are like. More blaming Whitey for black problems. Because most of them can't read, they say it's the fault of the schools, NOT the parents who do not or can not help them with their school work because THEY likely can not read. Is that Whitey's fault that black kids have a higher truancy rate than white kids? No, that is because the white parents CARE enough and take RESPONSIBILITY for their children and make sure they go to school.

Liberal democrats want to make everything Whitey's fault and spend our money on social problems to correct behavioral and socio-economic issues that they bring on themselves.

Does Whitey suggest that that they spend what money they have on alcohol, tobacco, drugs and lottery tickets, money that should go toward healthy food and clothes for school.

I have stood by long enough and watched the powers that be do nothing. It is not even close to enough to simply acknowledge the problem. Some of these schoodl board people with the huge salaries need to get out into the neighborhoods and make the PARENTS be responsible for those 11 kids they had by age 26.

You will not beat me down by calling me racist. Blacks are more racist toward whites than whites are toward blacks.

Raymond said,

"Liberal democrats want to make everything Whitey's fault"

And how, sir, does that fly in the face of the fact that at best, only 28% of the Democratic party is Black?

You ARE racist sir, and fortunately you are part of a dying breed. America is a melting pot. By 2050 Hispanics will be the majority and "whitey's" of which I am one, will be relegated to second place for the first time in American history. Either get use to it or find yourself isolated.

I find it deplorable that people raised in this country will do anything; lie, cheat, or steal, and do it under the banner of God; to get their own way. I find it sad that fear and a sense of "betterment" drives people to their worst actions.

If nothing else, the next four years will prove that, as FDR said, the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
