Make New Year's resolution to install anti-virus software

From Beacon Journal wire services

For a free Spybot anti-spyware program, go to http://www.download.com, find Spybot Search & Destroy in the list of most popular downloads.

Click on the link, which takes you to the Spybot download page.

For the free ZoneAlarm firewall, go to http://www.zonealarm.com/security/en-us/compare-anti-virus-spyware-software.htm.

Choose the basic firewall at the far right.

However, neither program will protect you against viruses the way McAfee software does.

That means you should get new anti-virus software right away.

There's a comparison chart of 17 anti-virus programs at: http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com.

Spybot. Zone Alarm. McAfee or Norton.

These all address different risks. If you're computer accesses the internet by any means other than satellite, you should have all three.

Satellite users should use Spybot and an antivirus program. No firewall really needed, because satellite (at least Hughesnet) uses IP spoofing which makes direct remote attacks nearly impossible.
