University of Akron football fans now can start making travel or tailgating plans for the 2009 season.
The Zips and the Mid-American Conference on Wednesday jointly announced times for 10 of the 12 games to be played in 2009.
Of prime importance to UA fans are the first two games at InfoCision Stadium, the new on-campus facility currently under construction.
Both of the games will be played in the afternoon, with the opener against Morgan State on Sept. 12 set for 2 p.m. and the second game against Indiana on Sept. 19 scheduled for 3:30 p.m. The Indiana game will be televised by ESPNU.
Two other home games will be in the afternoon or early evening. Ohio on Oct. 10 is at 6 p.m. and Kent State on Nov. 7 is at 3:30, with FSN Ohio televising.
The only definite night game is Temple on Nov. 13 at 8 p.m. The time for the sixth home game — Eastern Michigan on Nov. 27 — is yet to be determined.
The only other game without a time is at Syracuse on Oct. 24.
The season opener at Penn State on Sept. 5 has been scheduled for noon and will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
The Zips, who were 5-7 in 2008, begin practice for the new season Aug. 4.

8-4? What are you smoking, Zach? Haven't the Zips proven to you over the last couple seasons that if there's a way to lose, they'll find it. I think they've stolen the playbook from Eric Wedge. The more likely scenario is 4-8 and a new regime in 2010. Hope I'm wrong.

4-8? Last year, this team was picked to finish last, and should have won the MAC. They had the Bowling Green game and Buffalo game won and found ways to lose them, then let up at the end of the year.
Akron is bringing back the best line in the MAC and a potent offense (watch out for Bowser, right KSU), a quarterback with more experience and one of the best offensive coaching staffs (Harris & Montgomery) in the nation. If the defense can hold teams to 35, they will be 8-4.

If we finish 4-8 amd tarnish this new stadium...yikes!
8-4 is indeed what J.D needs to stay alive. Anything less and the new AD(whoever they are) will show no pity.
Akron finally gets it. Pad your schedule with relatively easy teams like OSU does every year, and give yourself a shot at a bowl game.
Let's see how it pans out.

Those three or four games on ESPNU will be a huge help for recruiting. I hear they now have ESPNU in Tonga. And Akron has Tonga.

UAEngineering: First of all, I wouldn't call Akron's schedule loaded with patsies. They play Penn State and Syracuse on the road and play Indiana at home. Patsies are teams you know you should beat. I don't think the Zips will be overconfident playing any of these three. With the exception of Morgan State, the rest are MAC teams. So what patsies did they load their schedule up with.
AS to OSU loading up with patsies, look at almost all power teams. They usually play one good opponent a year and the rest (non conference games) are to pad the victory column. Ohio just does it with MAC teams. It gets them home games all of the time and it helps the MAC teams with revenue

I didn't say "patsies". I said relatively easy games. That is, "big name" teams that most people recognize like Indiana and Syracuse that we have a chance at beating.
I hate the pay out games like Penn State. Hopefully those will slowly fade out in the near future.
And about OSU: I just say that to fire up the mindless OSU fans on these boards. A good majority of them never went to OSU(or college for that matter). And the difference between OSU and other "power" schools is that the other schools actually win in bowl games. OSU is the epitome of everything thats wrong with the BCS.

I just moved here and I am hoping that this squad has more bark than bite. I reviewed last seasons record and wasn't too impressed with the records but impressed with the stats. I wish all my dudes on the squad a good season and I will be supporting them through out the season. Go Zips

I'm hoping for 8-4 or better, and will be very disapointed with 6-6 or less. Jacob you have a very good take on the team, they need a great year or its time for new leadership.
