A local man charged with bilking homeowners, investors and lenders was sentenced this morning to 16 years in prison.
Former Evergreen Corp. President David B. Willan was found guilty by a Summit County jury of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity and 68 additional felonies.
He was sentenced today in Summit County Common Pleas Court by retired Judge James E. Murphy.
Assistant Attorney General Brad L. Tammaro of the Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission had recommended that Willan be given at least 25 years in prison with multiple fines.

good....
NOT ENOUGH
He should have got drunk and killed someone with his car. That's a 30 day sentence.
With shock parole he will be out cheating people in no time...
I hope his felony convictions reap him nothing but minimum wage jobs when he gets out. SCUM!
Mini-Madoff...from the Penthouse to the Outhouse...what a fall he must be experiencing, was it worth it ? 16 years to comtemplate that question..., how many years will his victims be living with his crimes ?
Hopefully he fullfills the complete 16 year sentence...
Great for him. The other people involved in this case only got slaps on the wrist. Amanda Lower of Carnation Bank who helped him ripe off people only got probation. She is out there prepitating a new scam called Operation Pooch which is ran out of Fairlawn Pet Resort with some woman named Lesley. They go to military function dressed in military uniforms soliciting donations for military personnel in Iraq and Afganistan. She is probably only doing it to pay her attorney and fines. THEY ARE BOTH WINNERS. She plead out on a deal and only got probation now she is the founder of an organization collecting contribution. WOW!!! DON"T GIVE HER YOUR MONEY!!!!!
deedeeohio...
I hear Ms. Lower is also offering free typing and spelling instructions. You might want to give her shout.
I'm sure she can teach a lot of people how to make fake documents. So she must be a really good at a typewriter and copier. I wouldn't give them people another cent of my money. Just keeping an eye on what these people are up to because apparently the courts don't care that they ripped off a lot of good honest people of their money take a look at all the abandoned homes in Akron. I beat a lot of them is caused by Evergreen and Carnation Bank. Your probably one of them.....Just wanted to let the public know what they are up to since they are all convicted of crimes and should not be handling anybody's money!!!.
Love seeing him in his new striped outfit!
Not Brainwashed, way off base as usual. Not even slightly similar situations.
Looking at this photo, I think I went to high school with this dude. Crazy.
Right, not the same situation. THERE WAS NOBODY KILLED HERE. He just didn't have enough money to buy his way out.
Willan didn't do much of anything out of the ordinary from what daily Wall Street Casino gambling gamesters do.
Why does Willan have to pay for his Ponzi running and Wall Street gets our bailout tax dollars? Willan's little Ponzi operation doesn't own the Senate like the Big Banksters do.
To Deedeeohio@yahoo.com~ nice using your email address by the way
I think you should get her facts straight. Ms. Lower's group is non profit. SHE GETS NOTHING OUT OF IT! She volunteers HER time to help the soldiers fighting for your freedom. Got anything else to mispell?
The pack of convicts are stupendously awaiting the arrival of there newest fudge packer.
Willan will be 'fresh-meat' for maybe a half hour after his introductions
Now - how about going after CitiMortgage and the fraudulent "loan remodifications" they pulled back in 2004 and 2005 . . . did I mention they foreclosed on your home as they were processing the paperwork?
As far as I am concerned - anyone that worked there is guilty.
How about fining Sherri Bevan Walsh $1 for every $1 he makes restitution for wasting the taxpayers money!
How about putting deedeeohio under the spotlight and watch her life get ruined like Conner and Willians Mules that they had. You have no idea. And really maybe she is doing that non profit group as a type of redemption.. Get real lady. She and the other MULES have had it hard enough, she pays for it everyday of her life. GET A GRIP.
how much money does he have hidden
16 years is what? 6 with parole for good behavior? He gets out of prison(probably club fed) and he is a millionaire?
just think cabbage patch doll 4 months hmmmmmmmm!
He looks like a Maroon. . .
Mr Big Shot looks kinda sickly thinking of his future. He had no conscience during his scamming
career. C YA Wouldn't wanna B YA.
Good riddance to bad garbage! Hope he has a cellmate named "Bubba" who is 6'10", 300lbs and "takes a real liking" to him.
Where did this judge Murphy come from??
If I ever commit a crime I want him for my judge because he is an advocate for the criminal. Out of a possible 100 years sentence he gives Willan only 16?
Judge Murphy go back into retirement and stay there!
@BillyBob and Irishlou
Read Laura Ofebike's column today. I have no pitty for Willan but prison rape is not to be pare of the penalty. This is the United States, not some third world country. Get a grip!
See what greed gets you.
The business model was BRILLIANT! The investor was compensated well beyond any return they could expect from a conventional investment. They were receiving their money up to the point that the county arrested David Willan.
The blighted houses were fixed up and sold to people that would NEVER have been able to afford a home, otherwise.
It is a pretty sad state of affairs that our county can close down a thriving business, thus forcing the owner to default on his promises to his investors, and then turn around and sentence him to sixteen years in jail for "bilking investors"
He was making a lot of money and not paying off the proper officials - that was his crime.
Steve you're correct. He wasn't a rich athlete.
What I wonder is, if he was innocent of all of these doings, why in the world was he buying boats and expesnive jewelry and breast enhancements for girlfriendSSS?
what a loser dave is. He sure got a taste of the lavish life he was living from the money he stole from people. Well now he will have plenty of time in a hole to think about the life he once had, a life that he will NEVER have again. Who is going to hire this fool when he's released from prison at the ripe age of 54? hahahah. Karama is a b*tch.
haaahaha
