Here is a list of road and lane closings in the Akron area:
Major highways abruptly closed: None.
Other road construction:
AKRON:
• Cedar Street, from South Main Street to South High Street: Lane reduction because of construction until the end of July.
• Spicer Street, from East Exchange Street to Vine Street: The southbound lane is closed until September for relocation of an underground sewer line. Northbound traffic will be maintained. Southbound traffic will be detoured via Carroll, Goodkirk and Exchange streets.
• South Main Street, from Waterloo Road to Swartz Road: Road reconstruction and replacement of the bridge over Brewster Creek. The project includes widening for an exclusive left-turn lane at Waterloo Road for northbound traffic.
• North Street, between Howard and Furnace streets: Closed for continuation of the street reconstruction project that started last fall. Traffic will be detoured via Dan Street, Glenwood Avenue and North Howard Street with signs posted. It will remain closed until July 17. Local and emergency access will be maintained.
• North Hawkins Avenue, from Garman Road to Fairfax Road/Wiltshire Road intersection: Closed for reconstruction of the road north of the railroad tracks until Aug. 21. The Hawkins/Fairfax/Wiltshire intersection is closed completely and will remain closed for two to three weeks. Traffic will be detoured via Fairfax, Garman and Castle Boulevard.
• Martha Avenue, from I-76 exit ramp to Seiberling Street: Closed in both directions south of the Goodyear Technical Center until Sunday for installation of storm-water and sanitary sewer lines. The exit from I-76 eastbound to Martha Avenue also will be closed, but the I-76 westbound exit ramp to Martha will remain open. Martha will be open to the technical center entrance and parking lots.
Elsewhere in Summit County:
• Interstate 77 in Green, Akron and Coventry Township: I-77 between Arlington Road and Archwood Avenue will have various lane restrictions in both directions from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly through Friday for resurfacing. During these hours, I-77 will be reduced to two lanes at 6 p.m. and then to one lane about 9 p.m. Various nightly ramp closings at the I-77 and U.S. 224/I-277 interchange will occur through Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Detours will be posted. This is part of a project to resurface I-77 from Killian Road to the U.S. 224/Interstate 277 interchange, and includes sign replacements and bridge work. It is to be completed by late July.
• U.S. 224 in Springfield Township: U.S. 224 from state Route 532 (Portage County line) to the eastern Akron limits (near Hilbish Avenue) will have daytime lane restrictions through Friday in both directions for resurfacing. Traffic may be maintained by flaggers. This is part of a project to resurface U.S. 224 from the eastern city limits to state Route 532. It is expected to be completed by the end of July.
• State Route 8 in Cuyahoga Falls: There are nightly restrictions on Route 8 in both directions from just south of Howe Avenue to Graham Road. They will occur from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly through Friday. Route 8 southbound will be reduced to two lanes at 6 p.m., then down to one lane about 9 p.m. Route 8 northbound will be reduced to two lanes at 7 p.m. and then to one lane about 10 p.m. Route 8 from Broad Boulevard to state Route 59/Front Street will have various single-lane restrictions in both directions from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
• South Main Street, from Swartz Road to Althea Avenue in Coventry Township: Road widening and bridge replacement over the Tuscarawas River. Includes an exclusive right-turn lane for southbound traffic turning onto North Turkeyfoot Road from South Main Street. The road will be widened to provide two through lanes for southbound traffic on South Main, and one through lane and a combined through/turn lane for northbound traffic.
• State Route 21 in Copley Township: Route 21 from the Norton city limits to Interstate 77 will be reduced to one lane in both directions in various locations during nonpeak hours for resurfacing until further notice. This is part of the project to resurface Route 21 from state Route 585 to I-77, as well as perform minor bridge work, and is to be completed in July.
• State Route 261 in Norton: State Route 261 from the Medina County line to the western Akron limits (Collier Road) may have daytime lane restrictions through Friday for resurfacing and bridge work. This project is to be completed by the end of August.
• I-77 in Richfield and Richfield Township: Traffic pattern changes have occurred on I-77 from just north of state Route 303 to just north of state Route 21. Although two lanes remain open in both directions, there is a crossover condition with one northbound and two southbound lanes now traveling on the southbound side of I-77. An additional northbound lane is still traveling on the northbound side for I-77 through traffic as well as traffic exiting at Route 21 and the Ohio Turnpike. The northbound lanes have been reduced to 10 feet each.
• State Route 8 in Macedonia and Northfield Center Township: Between state Route 82 and Valley View Road, Route 8 will have nightly lane restrictions in both directions for road repairs and resurfacing until further notice.
• I-271 and state Route 8 in Boston Heights, Hudson, Macedonia and Northfield Center Township: Route 8 under I-271 will have lane restrictions from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through Friday. This is part of the project to reconstruct Route 8 from just south of Twinsburg Road to just north of the I-271 interchange. New two-lane ramps will be built to get onto I-271 from Route 8 northbound and to Route 8 southbound from I-271 southbound. Route 8 has been separated from Twinsburg Road, and Highland Road has been widened with additional turn lanes and new signals. The project is to be completed by mid-summer 2010.
• State Route 8 in Hudson and Boston Heights: Boston Mills Road at Route 8 is closed following completion of the extension/connection of Chittenden Road to Boston Mills Road east of Route 8, allowing access to both state Route 303 and Route 8. A detour is posted. This is part of the project to connect the Ohio Turnpike interchange with Boston Mills and Hines Hill roads.
• State Route 82 in Twinsburg and Twinsburg Township: From Tinkers Creek to the Portage County line, there will be weekday lane restrictions with traffic maintained by flaggers for resurfacing until further notice.
• State Route 82 in Macedonia: Route 82 at the railroad bridge will be reduced to one lane for bridge demolition Tuesday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Park Avenue at Route 82 is closed until late July for reconstruction. Detour is Route 82 to East Valley View Road. There will be a minimum of one lane of traffic from South Bedford Road to just east of Crow Drive. This is part of the project to widen Route 82 to five lanes in that area, with replacement of the railroad bridge over Route 82. The work is to be completed by late October.
• State Route 8 at Steels Corners Road in Stow: At the intersections of Steels Corners Road, Allen Road and Hudson Drive, there are lane restrictions for widening and reconstruction work. Delays can be expected. The project is scheduled to be completed in September.
• Seasons Road at State Route 8 in Hudson and Stow: State Route 8 northbound at Seasons Road is reduced to two lanes through late July for placement of a concrete barrier. Also, Seasons Road under Route 8 is closed until early September for reconstruction. This work is part of the project to construct a new interchange. The detour is Wyoga Lake Road to Steels Corners Road to Hudson Drive.
• State Route 91 in Munroe Falls: Between North River Road and Munroe Falls Avenue there are occasional lane restrictions for bridge repairs all week.
MEDINA COUNTY:
• I-71 and I-76 in Medina County: Major reconstruction and widening of I-71, including addition of a third lane in each direction from one-half mile north of Leroy Road to one mile north of the I-76 interchange. Included are major modifications to the I-71/I-76 interchange. Two narrowed lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction but there may be single-lane closings during nonpeak travel times. The project is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2010.
• I-71 to U.S. 224 ramp closing: The I-71 northbound ramp to U.S. 224 westbound is closed for work as part of the I-71/I-76 widening and reconstruction project. The ramp will reopen Oct. 6. A detour is posted.
• U.S. 224 ramp to I-71 closing: The U.S. 224 eastbound ramp to I-71 southbound will close Tuesday for ramp reconstruction. It will reopen Oct. 30. A detour will be posted.
• I-71 lane restrictions: I-71 northbound, at mile marker 17 (one mile south of state Route 18), will have lane restrictions for drainage repairs Tuesday and Wednesday. Starting at 7 a.m. Tuesday, I-71 will be reduced to two lanes of traffic. It will be reduced to one lane of traffic starting at 7 p.m. and work will conclude by noon Wednesday. One lane of I-71 northbound will be maintained at all times.
• State Route 83 lane restrictions: There will be one lane of two-way traffic between state Route 18 and Willow Road as part of a resurfacing project. One lane will be maintained at all times with flaggers. Work is to be completed in late August.
• Wandel Road closing in Homer Township: Between Camp Road and Spencer Road on Tuesday for a culvert replacement.
• Fixler Road closing in Sharon Township: Between Boneta Road and Beach Road through Thursday for a culvert replacement.
• Spencer Lake Road closing in Chatham Township: Between Richman Road and Avon Lake Road Wednesday and Thursday for a culvert replacement.
PORTAGE COUNTY:
• State Route 261 closing in Kent: Between Franklin Avenue and Mogadore Road at the bridge over the railroad tracks. This closing will remain until September and is for bridge repairs. A detour will be posted.
• U.S. 224 in Atwater Township: A short section of U.S. 224 between Stroup Road and state Route 183 will have occasional weekday lane restrictions for slope repair and guardrail improvements until further notice. Flaggers will maintain traffic.
• State Route 305 in Nelson Township: The closed sections between Brosius and Prentiss roads, and between Kyle and Nicholson roads, are to reopen this week. Detour for both is state Route 88 to U.S. 422.
STARK COUNTY:
• I-77 in Jackson Township: There will be shoulder work in both directions from Shuffel Road to the Summit County line from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays for cable rail installation until further notice.
• I-77 in Pike Township: I-77 southbound will be reduced to one lane for about two weeks for slope repair about two miles south of Fohl Road.
• State Route 93 in Lawrence and Tuscarawas townships: Route 93 just south of Weygandt Street is now open. Route 93 just north of state Route 172 is closed until mid-July for culvert replacements. Detour is state Route 172 to Lillian Gish Boulevard to state Route 21. Access to all homes will be maintained.
• State Route 93 in Canal Fulton: Closed between Locust Street and Milan Road Wednesday through Sunday for the Canal Days Festival. A detour will be posted.
• U.S. 62 in Canton and Louisville, and Plain and Nimishillen townships: U.S. 62 from Regent Avenue to California Avenue is reduced to one lane in each direction from Regent Avenue to California Avenue for resurfacing.
• State Route 21 in Massillon and Perry Township: Reduced to one lane in each direction over the Tuscarawas River for bridge work. The project includes resurfacing, along with redecking and painting the twin bridges over the river. Work is to be completed by mid-August.
• State Route 241 at state Route 21 in Massillon: Route 21 under Route 241 is reduced to one lane in each direction, and Route 241 over Route 21 is reduced to one lane in each direction until further notice. The Route 21 southbound exit ramp to Route 241 will be closed until mid-August. A detour is posted. This is part of a project to reconstruct the Route 241 twin bridges over Route 21, to be completed in July 2010.
• Fulton Drive and Wales Avenue lane restrictions in Jackson Township: Various lane restrictions will occur at the intersection of Wales Avenue (state Route 241) and Fulton Drive (state Route 687) throughout this week for paving work. Delays can be expected. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by October.
• State Route 44 closing in Osnaburg Township: Between Mapleton Street and Hill Church Street for a culvert replacement until late July. A detour is posted.
WAYNE COUNTY:
• I-71 lane closings: Between mile markers 194 and 195 in Ashland County (just south of the Wayne County line), I-71 is reduced to two lanes of traffic in each direction as part of a bridge repair project on state Route 604. These lane restrictions will continue through the end of August. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained at all times in each direction.
• State Route 3, between Schellin Road and Pleasant Home Road: Restricted to one lane of two-way traffic for resurfacing. It is expected to be completed in mid-September.
Elsewhere in Northeast Ohio:
• I-77, additional lane in Brecksville, Broadview Heights and Independence: The Rockside Road eastbound ramp to I-77 northbound remains restricted to one narrow lane. Work has resumed on the north end of I-77 from Wallings Road to Rockside Road. Traffic is currently shifted to the outside as crews build pavement, including the widened portion of I-77. Both daily and nightly lane closings are expected but should not affect rush hours. The entire project adds a lane on I-77 between Oakes Road and Rockside Road.

• Fulton Drive and Wales Avenue lane restrictions in Jackson Township: Various lane restrictions will occur at the intersection of Wales Avenue (state Route 241) and Fulton Drive (state Route 687) throughout this week for paving work. Delays can be expected. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by October.
• State Route 44 closing in Osnaburg Township: Between Mapleton Street and Hill Church Street for a culvert replacement until late July. A detour is posted.
WAYNE COUNTY:
• I-71 lane closings: Between mile markers 194 and 195 in Ashland County (just south of the Wayne County line), I-71 is reduced to two lanes of traffic in each direction as part of a bridge repair project on state Route 604. These lane restrictions will continue through the end of August. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained at all times in each direction.
• State Route 3, between Schellin Road and Pleasant Home Road: Restricted to one lane of two-way traffic for resurfacing. It is expected to be completed in mid-September.
Elsewhere in Northeast Ohio:
• I-77, additional lane in Brecksville, Broadview Heights and Independence: The Rockside Road eastbound ramp to I-77 northbound remains restricted to one narrow lane. Work has resumed on the north end of I-77 from Wallings Road to Rockside Road. Traffic is currently shifted to the outside as crews build pavement, including the widened portion of I-77. Both daily and nightly lane closings are expected but should not affect rush hours. The entire project adds a lane on I-77 between Oakes Road and Rockside Road.
