Tuesday is Election Day in Akron, Barberton, Stow

Beacon Journal staff report

Today is Election Day, but don’t bother to go to the polls unless you live in Akron, Barberton or Stow. These are the only Summit County cities with primaries. In Akron, both Republicans and Democrats will vote, while just Democrats will cast ballots in Barberton. Stow has a nonpartisan primary.

A higher turnout than normal for a municipal election is expected because of the heightened interest in the Akron mayoral race. Akron residents also will vote on council races. Barberton voters will decide races for mayor, finance director, law director and council. In Stow, the contested races are for mayor and council.

The polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Voters with questions may call the Summit County Board of Elections at 330-643-5200.
