U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan isn’t running for governor.
Ryan released a statement Friday morning saying he has decided not to run. He was considered one of the Democratic front-runners to take on Gov. John Kasich.
“I want to thank all of my dear friends, family and staff members for their views and support while I was considering this decision,” Ryan, D-Niles, said in the news release, noting that he thinks he can best contribute by continuing his efforts in Congress.
Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald is so far the only Democrat who has announced plans to run, forming a campaign committee to begin the process.
Former U.S. Rep. Betty Sutton is another potential candidate, but hasn’t yet said if she will try for this or another statewide seat.
