WADSWORTH: Workers are putting the finishing touches on the soon-to-open Wadsworth YMCA Community Center.
Executive Director Maureen Mizerak said the pools have been filled and the fitness equipment is installed at the new facility set to open later this month at 623 School Drive.
The community-owned complex is also home to the Soprema Senior Center and Cafe and Wadsworth Community Television. Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital and the Wadsworth Library are also partners in the collaborative project adjacent to the new high school which opened in September.
A membership drive is under way and until Jan. 31 the startup fee is reduced by 50 percent. The startup fee charged to new members covers membership cards, processing, account maintenance and contributions to the Enterprise Fund.
Charter memberships are also available. To become a charter member, a member must make a one-time tax-deductible gift of $100. This gift will be used to support youth programs and provide financial assistance for families in need.
The YMCA will include an eight-lane competition pool with grandstands, a family leisure pool, a warm-water therapy pool, a fitness center with treadmills, arc trainers, steppers, NuSteps, power cycling bikes, stationary bikes, strength machines and weights.
In addition, the facility will have a group exercise studio, a fieldhouse with four basketball courts, locker rooms, family changing rooms, child watch center, multi-program rooms, a social hub area and a teen gathering area.
Some of the programs expected to be offered include: swimming, lifeguard classes, sports, teen leaders club, preschool classes, martial arts, Zumba, power cycling, personal training, Wellness 101 and Silver Sneakers.
Membership in the Wadsworth program will also provide access to the Green, University Park, Lake Anna, Riverfront, Firestone Park facilities and YMCAs of Central Stark County.
The YMCA is working out of a temporary office at 147 College St.
