BROADVIEW HEIGHTS: Author Aiden Shugert is holding a public workshop today for elementary- and middle-school children who aspire to write.
That’s noteworthy because Aiden, of Broadview Heights, recently turned 12 years old and was published at age 11.
The workshop will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Brecksville Community Center, 1 Community Drive. Children who have an interest in writing are invited.
Cost is $50.
Aiden is the author of a collection of six short stories in the book, The Marvelous Misadventures of the Fab Five. Before being published, he dreamed of one day becoming an author, but he did not know what to do with his stories.
In another era, that might have been the final chapter. In this age, where entrepreneurial role models abound, however, Aiden decided to get proactive and pre-sell copies of his book to pay for its production.
As it turned out, he presold 29 copies in five hours. Combining that money with funds he had earned shoveling cow manure on a farm, Aiden successfully financed the publication of his first collection of stories.
Having met his ambition to publish, Aiden recently decided to take his experience and share it with other children who might be thinking about telling stories of their own. He hopes to inspire like-minded children to write and publish what comes from their imaginations, just as he did, he said.
“This workshop focuses on putting those ideas in your head onto paper in stories, while helping to build self-confidence and self-discipline,” Aiden said. “I know that writing has helped me in my day-to-day life, and I want to help other kids to do the same.”
