Acts of Courage Award is going to the dogs

The annual American Red Cross Acts of Courage Award has a new "Animal Hero" category. This year they will recognize Stow police dog Nero. The event takes place on March 2.

Each year the American Red Cross of Summit and Portage counties recognizes residents who have acted courageously in emergencies.

This year 15 heroes will be recognized, with one being Nero.

The public is invited to the dinner event. Festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. at Quaker Station in downtown Akron. Admission is $50 for adults, and $20 for children ages 12 and under. Proceeds support Red Cross services.

The evening also feature the presentation of the H. Peter Burg Community Leadership Award.
