Akron-area animals in the news

Here's a roundup of area pets activities and events:

• Pawsibilities, the Humane Society of Greater Akron, is sponsoring a Boutique to Benefit Homeless Animals with host SunSeekers Tanning & Room 9, 6-9 p.m. May 3, at 1602 Portage Trail in Cuyahoga Falls. The evening will include spray tans for $20. Presale tickets are $10 and are available at SunSeekers and the Humane Society of Greater Akron. The HSGA will also sponsor its annual Bark in the Park Walk and Pet Expo from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 12 at Springfield Lake Park, 2459 Canfield Road, Springfield Township. •  Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, 3900 Wildlife Way, is celebrating Mother’s Day with half-price admission for moms. On May 13, moms will be admitted for $6.25, in the event sponsored by Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, which will provide special activities.

• Also at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, bike-riding visitors will be able to participate in the Wild Ride at the Zoo 5:30-8:30 p.m. May 12. Folks of all ages are invited to cruise the zoo by bike to see the animals. Bikes will be available for rental. A helmet and signed release form will be required for each biker. To be admitted, riders under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian sign and deliver the waiver. Tickets are $12 and are available at 216-661-6500.
