Akron authorities are looking for a dog believed to be a pit bull that mauled a 2-year-old girl in the driveway of her home in Akron's Goodyear Heights neighborhood Sunday.

Hannabell Hope Hicks received more than 100 stitches in her face at Akron Children's Hospital.

''I thought I saw something out of the corner of my eye come around the other side of the house,'' the child's mother, Kelly Hicks, said. ''Then I heard this thing growling and it just attacked her and threw her right down to the ground.''

The attack happened around 10:30 p.m. as Hannabell and her mother were walking across their Pioneer Street driveway, on the way home from their next-door neighbor's.

''If it happened to my child, it could happen to anybody,'' said Kelly Hicks, who is urging anyone with information to call the city's animal warden at 330-375-2311.

The dog is black with white on its face, chest and paws. Kelly Hicks estimated it weighs about 65 to 80 pounds.
