Animal advocates may push for ban on dog auctions
Members of several animal-advocacy groups are exploring whether to ask voters to approve a statewide ban on dog auctions.
Those working on the plan hope to submit language of a proposed ballot initiative to the state for review within the next two weeks, said Mary O'Connor-Shaver, a Columbus-area animal-rights advocate.
This is all part of a long-running, tightly organized effort to crack down on dog breeders who run operations that animal-rights activists call "puppy mills."
