AKRON: Akron police have arrested a second suspect in the fatal beating of a family's dog in February.
Lewis Napoleon Jr. was arrested Sunday afternoon in connection with the beating of a Shih Tzu-Pekingese mix named Suzi during a break-in and burglary of a Morse Street home.
The pet's owners had to euthanize the dog because of the severity of the injuries sustained during the burglary.
Officers said Napoleon was found hiding in a crawl space about 3 p.m. at his mother's residence on Susan Court in Akron. He was charged with burglary, theft and cruelty to animals. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Summit County Jail.
Melvin Prince, 18, of Akron, was arrested last week and charged with burglary and cruelty to animals. He was 17 when the crime occurred and is being treated as a juvenile.
He is being held in the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center.
The name of a third suspect has not been released, police said.
