Bark in the Park Walk May 12 at Springfield Lake Park

The annual Bark in the Park Walk and Pet Expo is back this year on Saturday, May 12 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Springfield Lake Park in Akron.

Proceeds from the event, which also features a pet expo, will help support PAWSibilities, Humane Society of Greater Akron. Pet walk pledgers can register at http://www.firstgiving.com/summithumane/bark-in-the-park-2012. There is a $5 registration fee to walk.

“Bark in the Park gets rave reviews every year! People show off their own best friend while they raise funds to help rescue animals find forever homes," Karen Hackenberry, Executive Director of PAWSibilities, said in an e-mail. "Our goal is an ambitious $35,000 this year. If every two-legged walker can raise just $100 in pledges we’ll be over the top!”

Registrants who raise $100 or more will receive a T-shirt and dog bandana.The shirts can be purchased the day of the even for $15.

The expo will feature police dog demonstrations, a showcase of adoptable dogs and a dog ice cream eating contest. Vendor booths will also be on location.

Registration begins at 11 a.m. and the walk starts at noon. The pet expo is from 11 a..m to 3 p.m.
