Easter Pets: Not such a great idea

By BrookeLynn Published: April 9, 2009

April is here (at last).  With that comes April showers, Easter, and baby animals galore.

Now, I know a lot of people think of it as a great idea to get in the spirit of the "baby season" and adopt themselves some chicks, bunnies and duckies to show them off to the kids.  It is always a great idea at first:  but once the novelty wears off, now what?

First off, the adorable pink and purple chicks you see for sale could be carrying salmonella: which could be a real danger to children.

Did you know most of these little guys end up in shelters, if they don't die or become injured first?  Sad, but true.  Lots of these little guys require special care: specific temperatures, special feeding, and more: stuff that you and I most-likely don't know a thing about.

I mean, I've never raised a duck before and I wouldn't know where to start.

So instead of a live surprise, why not a totally decent chocolate bunny, or a plush ducky?  There are a lot of farms that showcase little lambs and the babies for the year, and it would make for a memorable moment, minus the commitment.  Happy Hoppy!
