PAWS Pet of the Week: Athena

By millere80 Published: December 7, 2009

ATHENA IS SO SWEET AND SO LOVABLE.... JUST A HAPPY WIGGLE BUTT! LOVES PEOPLE, DOGS AND CATS! Athena is about 6 years old and looking for her forever home. It appears that Athena was bred and had a few litters of puppies in the past. Well, we are making sure that she will not be allowed to breed ever again. She appears to be healthy.

Here is what Athena's Foster Mom lovingly wrote up for her beautiful foster doggie, Athena: "Athena, named for a Goddess, was owned by a family that proudly stated she is a purebred German Rottweiler, but they treated her like junk. They tied her out in the yard and didn't seem to notice that her hair was falling out and that she was scratching herself incessantly. They seemed not to notice that while she was tied out, that various neighborhood male dogs visited to impregnate her. They didn't seem to mind that she had several litters of puppies that they carelessly dispersed into the neighborhood without any vaccinations or precautions for their health. After all, they did nothing for their mother who is now six years old. In spite of all she has endured, she is sweet and dignified.”

From time to time, Athena would wear out the old belt used as a collar and wander the neighborhood, perhaps in search of food? Maybe her owners forgot to feed her for a day or two. She got a reputation as an escape artist, but why not if she had the chance just to go for a walk? Maybe she got tired of staying in that yard day after day, but she always went back home. This precious girl will need to live in a home with a decent height fence.

Athena is now in the care of PAWS. She has been spayed and the allergy she has to flea bites has been treated and all fleas are gone. If you're interested in Athena, please contact PAWS at 440-442-PAWS or visit www.pawsohio.org.
