Pet control urged

By jim Published: April 14, 2009

CINCINNATI: The mayor of Cincinnati is joining activists such as longtime game show host Bob Barker in urging that pets be spayed or neutered.

Mayor Mark Mallory says the city has an interest in limiting the number of unwanted pets because animal shelters and rescue groups are overburdened.

Mallory says it's expensive to house unwanted pets, and even to euthanize them. He says the spay/neuter campaign is an affordable, low-cost solution.

Barker has championed spaying and neutering for decades and has even urged cities to pass laws making the practices mandatory to reduce the number of dogs and cats
