With nearly 2000 animals coming through our shelter doors each year, no one can say that the employees at the Humane Society of Greater Akron don’t have a sense of humor – especially when they choose names. “We all participate in naming the animals and we often choose a name that is ironic. When this five to six month old American Staffordshire Terrier and Shar Pei mix came in with a severe case of mange – it was irony that led the staff to name her Beauty, “said Executive Director Karen Conklin.
However after spending nearly a week here – Beauty’s name completely captures her spirit. She has a great spirit and a sweet dog that needs a loving home. Her ailment is demodex, which is a form of mange that is not contagious but the severity may take three months or so to clear up.
Beauty was brought to the shelter on November 11 by a Good Samaritan who found her and the Humane Society of Greater Akron is treating her with antibiotics, medicated bathes and lots of love. Her skin is already showing signs of improvement and her hair will start to grow back soon. Beauty is available to foster immediately.
