Wishing Well Program — Acme Fresh Market collected just under $16,000 in its 2012 program that was donated to the Humane Society of Greater Akron, Stark County Humane Society, Portage County Animal Protective League and the Parma Animal Shelter. The amount, collected when customers drop spare change into a wishing well, is a 37 percent increase over 2011.
We Speak Doggy — Posche Paws Pet Resort and Spa will present a free dog safety program at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday at 3712 Commerce Drive in Copley Township. The one-hour, interactive program, presented by Patty Vesalo of CleverPup 101 Family Dog Training of Bath Township, will kick off National Dog Bite Prevention Week. 2013 Bark Bone-anza Charity Dog Walk — Aurora’s Park and Recreation Department and Freedom Greyhound Rescue of Aurora will hold a charity dog walk sponsored by Purina Pro Plan’s Rally to Rescue at 10 a.m. May 19 at Tails and Trails Dog Park, 841 Page Road in Aurora. Registration is $10 per person and includes breakfast and a pup pack. Prizes are awarded for the top three pledges that will be distributed among participating rescue groups. A Charity Dog Challenge will follow where prizes will be awarded in a Biscuit Bite Off, Country Western Costume Contest, Doggie Limbo contest and fashion show. Senior Safari — The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, 3900 Wildlife Way, will hold a day with special activities and free admission for folks 55 and older May 31. Senior health, wellness and lifestyle information will be available in the exhibitor pavilion from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. where they can try out a free fitness demonstration and enjoy live music by the Progressive Field Dixieland Band and performances by the RSVP Players.
