All-electric rate information

By Beacon Journal staff

FirstEnergy Solutions now has a phone number for customers to enroll in its counter-offer to a rate offered by Duke Energy Retail for all-electric customers.

FirstEnergy Solutions (FES) is a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp., parent company of Ohio Edison. The number to enroll in the 31-month contract is 888-254-6359 or online through www.fes.com

The offer to all-electric customers carries a $100 cancellation fee if a customer cancels the contract before the 31-month term and if the customer leaves the company. FES is offering a 5.75 cents per kilowatt hour rate for October through March and 6.3 cents for April through September.

Duke Energy Retail, an affiliate of Duke Energy Ohio, a utility that mostly serves the Cincinnati area, is offering a two-year contract for 5.85 cents/kWh from November through March; 6.57 cents in September, October, April and May; and 6.99 cents from June through August.

Citizens for Keeping the All-Electric Promise (CKAP), a group of 3,000 who had advocated for keeping the long-standing discounts offered by FirstEnergy companies, including Ohio Edison, has endorsed the Duke plan.

The Duke offer, which is a two-year plan, has a $50 cancellation fee. Most customers are currently on a FES aggregation offer, which has a $25 cancellation fee, but the company has said it would waive the fee if the customer stays with FES on a different rate.

To sign up for Duke’s plan, go to http://retail.duke-energy.com/signup or call 877-331-3045.
