CALENDAR Today, Sunday The 5th Annual Fox Creek Outdoor Experience will be at Clay's Park Resort, 13190 Patterson St. N.W., Canal Fulton. Activities include: motorcycle or four-wheeler classes, fishing, canoeing, try the ropes course, archery, paintball or a mountain bike race. Plus, there are many demonstrations, including snowmobiles racing across the water, search and rescue dogs, retrievers in action, skateboarders, chain saw carving, a lumberjack show and a water ski show. One-day passes at the gate are $16 for adults and $10 for children under 12. Admission requires completion of a legal waiver. Today The Learned Owl Book Shop is hosting a ''Casting for Recovery'' program for breast cancer victims and sponsoring fly-fishing lessons from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Barlow Community Center, 41 S. Oviatt St., Hudson. Staff member Jim Davis, an avid fly-fisherman, will lead the classes covering the basics of fly fishing: how to cast, the proper equipment and its usage and the best spots to go in Northeast Ohio, especially for steelhead fishing. Each class size is limited to six people. Reservations are required. Cost is $30, with proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Additional donations are accepted. Call: 330-653-2252 or 800-968-2685. Nov. 3 Gander Mountain, 4938 Portage St. N.W., Jackson Township, will host a free talk about hunting bears in Maine. Guide Jim Morse will speak from 1 to 3 p.m. Information: 330-498-0995. Nov. 3 The NEOCATS will hold an open channel catfish tournament at Tappan Lake. This is a two-person team tournament. Entry fee is $35 per team. Big Flathead Pot (optional) is $10 per team. Fishing is from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Registration begins at 6 p.m. at Cripple Creek Bait and Tackle, 29562 Cadiz-Dennison Road, Dennison. Nov. 12 The Summit Sportsman's Association meets on the second Monday of the month at the Polish American Club on the corner of Dan Street and Glenwood Avenue in Akron from September through June. Sunday The Streetsboro Sportsman Association is sponsoring a turkey shoot each Sunday through Nov. 18. The hole closest to target center will establish the winner of each round. Shooters will compete for cash, meat and miscellaneous prizes. Refreshments are available for sale during the event. Sunday The North Lawrence Fish and Game Club, 15325 Lawmont St., Lawrence Township, is holding weekly turkey shoots that are open to the public each Sunday through Jan. 27. Additionally, Ohio hunters seeking licenses in other states may be required to show proof that they completed such a course. No charge. Information: 800-WILDLIFE. Portage County The Ravenna Parks and Recreation Department is offering hunter education courses. The classes will be held at the Apco Lodge at Lake Hodgson, 5019 Lakewood Road, Ravenna. Registration is required. Each three-day course is from 6:30 to 10 p.m. The final class session is Oct. 23-25. Contact Ravenna Recreation at 330-296-2864. Stark County There will be a hunter education course on Monday and Tuesday and on Oct. 22 and 23 taught at the North Industry Christian Church, 425 45th St. S.W., Canton.
