Marshall out for at least week due to injured wrist

PHOENIX: The Cavaliers' big-man rotation keeps taking hits.
Anderson Varejao is famously absent over contract matters. Offseason pickup Cedric Simmons is recovering from an ankle injury, and now Donyell Marshall is out of action for an undetermined period.
The Cavs have shut Marshall down for at least a week with a right wrist injury. The Cavs are saying it is sprained and are calling him day-to-day. He missed his first game Sunday against the Phoenix Suns.
Marshall said he was hoping some rest would allow him to return, but hinted he was concerned. He had surgery on the wrist in 2000 for torn cartilage.
''There was some stuff on the X-rays. Right now we're going to see how it goes for a week,'' Marshall said. ''If it doesn't quiet down by then, we'll see what the next step will be.''
After suffering the injury Wednesday in a collision with Dallas Mavericks guard Devin Harris, Marshall tried to play through it Friday against the New York Knicks, but couldn't.
''While I was shooting it was clicking and popping,'' Marshall said. ''Me being a shooter, I just couldn't do it.''
Cavs coach Mike Brown might use Simmons, who is mostly healed from the injury, some in Marshall's place. But he also said he might have to start deploying smaller lineups, using swingmen Ira Newble, Sasha Pavlovic or LeBron James to defend opposing forwards.
''It's a tough blow; it's going to hurt us,'' Brown said.
''It is going to depend on the matchups, we play Ira some or Sasha some.''
In the locker room
Pavlovic made his first appearance for the Cavs on Sunday after signing his contract last week. When Pavlovic landed in Phoenix, he'd been across nine time zones in roughly four days, and was battling jet lag while rushing to learn some of the Cavs' new plays.
''I thought (the contract) was going to be easier,'' Pavlovic said. ''It was a pretty hard decision (to hold out). I wanted to be with the team, but I had to wait. I know I did a good job last year. At the end of the day, I am happy.''
The Suns inducted former owner Jerry Colangelo into their Ring of Honor at halftime Sunday. There were numerous former Suns players and coaches on hand, including former Cavs coach Paul Silas.
