In a brief ceremony Wednesday, North Canton Hoover High School senior girls basketball players Kyle Baumgartner and Brittany Orban formally accepted basketball scholarships to the University of Akron and Northwestern University, respectively.
Baumgartner is a 6-foot-3 center who transferred to Hoover from Jackson High School before her junior year. Orban is a two-time All-Ohio selection who announced several months ago her intent to attend Northwestern.
Earlier in the day, five Hoover senior softball players made school — and possibly state — history as the largest class formally to accept athletic scholarships in softball to Division I universities.
Felicia Houtz signed with the University of Akron. Megan Lilley will go to Northwestern, Jessica Simpson will attend Miami University, and Sarah Gerber and McKenna Russ will attend Eastern Michigan.
