For Akron Aeros pitcher Ryan Edell, it was a great way to end the team's four-game losing streak.
Facing Altoona on the road in a Wednesday morning game, Edell (1-0, 2.22 ERA) threw eight shutout innings and allowed only four hits as the Aeros defeated the Curve 2-0.
Edell did not walk a batter and had two strikeouts. He escaped the only serious threat against him with a popout and double-play grounder after the Curve opened the second inning with consecutive singles.
The Aeros (7-11) scored a run in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly to center by designated hitter Wes Hodges (2-for-5), which scored Josh Rodriguez from third. Hodges leads the team with 17 RBI.
Center fielder Jose Constanza, who was 2-for-3, drove in catcher Armando Camacaro from third on a single to left in the sixth for the Aeros' final run.
Closer Randy Newsom pitched the ninth and earned his third save this year.
The Aeros begin a four-game home series against visiting Harrisburg on Thursday. The Senators are in first place in the Eastern League.
