When New York Yankees setup man Joba Chamberlain struck out David Dellucci to end the eighth inning of the Tribe's 6-3 loss Thursday, he whirled around and pumped his fist in the air three times, as if he'd won the World Series.
Two nights earlier, Dellucci had beaten Chamberlain with an eighth-inning, pinch-hit homer.
So was Chamberlain showing up Dellucci or merely excited to get the job done?
''That's what gets him going, and that's what everybody likes to see,'' Dellucci said. ''But if a hitter did something like that, they'd probably say it was bush [league] and you shouldn't do it. It's funny what a pitcher can get away with.''
BLUE JAYS MOVES The Toronto Blue Jays acquired two players Friday and immediately installed them in the lineup.
Designated-hitter Kevin Mench batted fifth and left-fielder Brad Wilkerson was in the eighth spot. Mench, obtained from the Texas Rangers for cash, was batting .282 at Oklahoma City of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League. Wilkerson was released by the Seattle Mariners, where he was batting .232 in 19 games.
One of the players removed from the roster to make room for the two newcomers was former Tribe infielder Joe Inglett, who was optioned to Triple-A.
REUNITING The Wahoo Club, the Tribe's booster organization, is sponsoring a reunion of former Indians players from the 1960s and '70s at a June 14 brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Massimo da Milano on West 25th Street in Cleveland.
Scheduled to attend are Len Barker, Dick Bosman, Vern Fuller, Jim ''Mudcat'' Grant, Steve Hargan, Jack Heidemann, Chuck Hinton, Joe Lis, Sam McDowell, Hal Naragon, Ron Pruitt, Kevin Rhomberg, Rich Rollins, Richie Scheinblum and Duke Sims.
For reservations, call Bob Rosen (216-999-1781) or long on to the Wahoo Club's Web site: http://www.Wahooclub.com.
