UA's Stevi Large
wins NCAA honors
Junior Stevi Large capped her University of Akron track season by placing eighth Friday in the women's hammer throw at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.
Large's effort earned her NCAA All-American honors for the second time.
On her last attempt, Large threw the hammer 206 feet, 3 inches (62.88 meters), the third-best distance in her career.
Earlier this outdoor season, Large won the hammer at the NCAA Mideast Regional and the Mid-American Conference meets. Her top throw of 207-9 puts her in the mix for a berth to this year's U.S. Olympic Trials.
Late Thursday night, UA senior Cadeau Kelley placed seventh in the men's long jump at the national meet, earning All-American honors for the first time in his collegiate career.
Kelley had entered the NCAA meet with the third-best long jump in the nation. His effort of 25-51/4 (7.75 meters) on his first jump in the finals held up against all but six others in the field.
