Racers to celebrate
10th anniversary
It has been 10 years since the Racers brought the world of professional fastpitch softball to Akron. To celebrate, the team is holding a four-day party beginning Wednesday.
The four-game homestand against the New England Riptide at Firestone Stadium will include a prize each night and a picnic Saturday.
The first 200 fans at Wednesday's game will receive a 10th-anniversary drawstring sports sack. Thursday will be Kids Night, when kids can buy tickets for $3.50 and can run the bases. Visors will be given to the first 250 fans Thursday as well. Five hundred fans will receive commemorative softballs Friday night.
The weekend will be capped off with a $10 all-you-can-eat picnic at 5 p.m. Saturday. The first 500 fans will receive commemorative coins celebrating the 10th anniversary. Fireworks will take place after the game. Stadium and terrace seats are $3.50.
All four games will start at 7:05 p.m. For tickets, call 330-376-8188.
Golf tournament
adding tee times
High demand for participation in the Golf for the Wounded'' tournament has led officials to double the size of the field.
The 72 afternoon slots for the July 20 tournament at Leisure Time Recreation and Golf Course in Stow filled up quickly, said Anne Hill of Leisure Time.
So, 72 tee times will be made available in the morning, Hill said.
Cost is $25 per person (prepaid) and includes 18 holes on the par-3 course and a barbecue lunch. All proceeds go to the Wounded Warriors Project.
To enter or for information, call Leisure Time at 330-688-4162.
