Beacon Journal staff report
Matt LaPorta hit a two-run home run to left field in the ninth inning to help the visiting Aeros defeat the Reading Phillies 3-2 Friday night.
LaPorta, the prized prospect acquired in the recent C.C. Sabathia trade, was playing in his fourth Aeros game.
Aeros shortstop Brandon Pinckney started the ninth inning rally with a double and scored on LaPorta's homer with two outs.
LaPorta, a left fielder, had an RBI ground out in the fifth that scored second baseman Joshua Rodriguez, who led off the inning with a triple.
Catcher Wyatt Toregas also had two hits for the first-place Aeros (59-34).
Aeros left-handed starter Ryan Edell struck out seven in seven innings, but did not get a decision. Right-handed reliever Luis Perdomo (2-0) struck out two in two innings and got the win.
