NASCAR SPRINT CUP
Allstate 400 At The Brickyard
Site: Indianapolis
Schedule: Saturday, qualifying (ESPN2, 10 a.m.); Sunday, race (ESPN, 1 p.m.).
Track: Indianapolis Motor Speedway (rectangular oval, 2.5 miles, 9 degrees banking in turns).
Race distance: 400 miles, 160 laps.
Last race: Kyle Busch maneuvered by two-time defending series champ Jimmie Johnson, passing him high on the next-to-last lap after the restart to win the Lifelock.com 400 on July 12. It was Busch's seventh Cup victory of the season and 14th spanning NASCAR's three series. He won a Nationwide race on the same track the previous night for Joe Gibbs Racing.
Last year: Tony Stewart won the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard, but was fined $25,000 and docked 25 points by NASCAR for cursing during his postrace television interview.
Fast facts: The winner of this race has gone on to win the championship six times, most recently Johnson in 2006. Stewart did it the previous year. ... Juan Pablo Montoya has made two starts at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, winning the Indianapolis 500 in 2000 and finishing second in last year's NASCAR event. ... The No. 3 pole position is the only position that has produced more than one winner since this race began in 1994. Jeff Gordon won twice (1994 and 1998) from the spot and Bobby Labonte won in 2000 from No. 3. ... On Monday, the National Stock Car Racing Commission upheld NASCAR's original penalties assessed to Dale Earnhardt Inc. regarding the No. 1 car during the opening day of inspection at Daytona on July 3. Driver Martin Truex Jr. and car owner Teresa Earnhardt each lost 150 championship points.

Track: O'Reilly Raceway Park (oval, 0.686 miles, 12 degrees banking in turns).
Race distance: 137.2 miles, 200 laps.
Last race: Carl Edwards passed Jason Leffler with 48 laps remaining and cruised to victory at the Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250. The defending champion earned only his second victory in 22 starts this season.
Last year: Leffler took the lead from Greg Biffle with two laps to go in the Kroger 200 at Indianapolis and raced to his first Busch win in three years — and Toyota's first victory ever in the series. Leffler's last series win came on June 12, 2004, in the Federated Auto Parts 300 in Nashville.
Fast facts: There have been 11 different winners in the last 11 races at Indianapolis. Seven of them have gone on to win the season's championship. ... Last race: Kyle Busch came up five spots short in his bid to make NASCAR history and Johnny Benson took advantage, holding off Michael Annett to win the Built Ford Tough 225 at Kentucky Speedway. Busch was attempting to become the first driver to win in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, Nationwide Series and Craftsman Truck Series in successive starts.
Last year: Ron Hornaday Jr. passed Travis Kvapil 30 laps from the finish of the 201-lap Power Stroke Diesel 200, then maintained his lead after two late restarts — the last of which came on lap 199.
