BASEBALL, SOFTBALL TRYOUTS• Ohio Hornets Baseball will hold tryouts for its 16U team from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 17 at Reservoir Park, 1735 Hillside Trail, Akron. Information: 330-814-4956 or http://www.hornetsbaseball.org.

• The Milwaukee Brewers will conduct a tryout camp at 9 a.m. Aug. 21 on the campus of Mercyhurst-North East in North East, Pa. Information: 412-318-0138.

STADIUM USHERS NEEDED• Lake High School is seeking adult ushers for its 2008 home football games. Dates are Aug. 29, Sept. 12 and Oct. 3, 17 and 24. Volunteers will receive a complimentary pass good for admission to all Lake home athletic events during the school year. Information: 330-877-4288.
SWIM TEAM TRYOUTS• Tryouts for the Green YMCA Barracudas will be 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Green Family YMCA, 3800 Massillon Road. Swimmers must be able to complete 25 yards in the freestyle. Information: 330-899-9622.
RECREATION LEAGUE OPENINGS• The Kent State University Department of Recreational Services plans to add four community leagues to its offerings this fall: flag football, racquetball and basketball for high-school age players; and kickball for adults.
