The host Philadelphia Force completed a season-ending sweep of the Akron Racers late Saturday that eliminated the Racers from the 2008 playoffs.

The Force won by scores of 3-1 (10 innings) and 4-0.

Akron's Jamee Juarez lost the opener despite allowing only five hits in nine innings.

The Racers finished the season with a 19-29 record and in fifth place in the six-team National Professional Fastpitch League. The NPF playoffs will be this weekend in Kimberly, Wisc., for the top four teams.

White Hats earn national berth

The Brennan White Hat softball team, composed of players age 70 and over from the Greater Akron area, will represent Ohio in the National Senior 70-plus Softball Division next August in San Francisco.

The team defeated Fairborn Stonehill Village twice in the 2008 Ohio Senior Olympics Qualifier at Dayton recently to earn the national berth.

The White Hats won the first game 19-18 on Bill Zavarello's game-winning hit in the bottom of the eighth inning. Tom Vild and Bob Jenkins had home runs. In the second game, Gary Carpenter's grand slam was the highlight of the 25-19 win.

The team has one more tournament this year, Oct. 13-18 at the Huntsman Senior Games in St. George, Utah.
Kingdom Center Kings are champs

Tim Carroll and McNeil Thompson each scored 25 points Saturday to lead the Kingdom Center Kings over the Gus Johnson Family Foundation 66-54 in the championship game of the National Christian Basketball Association's 2008 season.

Carroll and Thompson were named tournament co-MVPs.

Joe Ashburn scored 15 points for the Gus Johnson Foundation.

The NCBA handed out two coaching awards Saturday: Blaine Curry (Arlington Church of God) was named Coach of the Year for the regular season; and Brian Milbury (Kingdom Center Kings) was named tournament Coach of the Year.
