AUTO RACING
NASCAR Sprint Cup
Sprint Cup 500Site: Fontana, Calif.
Schedule: Friday, qualifying (Speed Channel, 6:30 p.m.); Sunday, race (ESPN, 7 p.m.).
Track: Auto Club Speedway (D-shaped oval, 2 miles, 14 degrees banking in turns).
Race distance: 500 miles, 250 laps.
Last race: Carl Edwards saw Kyle Busch lead 415 consecutive laps at Bristol Motor Speedway, then used his bumper to nudge Busch's car aside with 30 laps to go, causing it to wiggle just enough so Edwards could drive by for his second consecutive Cup victory and third in the last four events.
Last year: Jimmie Johnson grabbed a victory in the Sharp Aquos 500, clinching a spot in the Chase for the Championship.
Fast facts: Joey Logano will join Joe Gibbs Racing next season, replacing Tony Stewart in the No. 20 Toyota, while Reed Sorenson signed a multiyear contract to join Gillett Evernham Motorsports, where he'll join Kasey Kahne and Elliott Sadler in 2009. ... Edwards and Busch have combined to win six of the last seven races and 14 of 24 this season. Edwards was the runner-up in three of Busch's victories and Busch was second in Edwards last two wins. Edwards won the February race at Fontana, while Busch earned his first career victory there in 2005. ... There are two races remaining before the Chase for the championship. Denny Hamlin (11th place), Clint Bowyer (12th) and David Ragan (13th) each moved up one position, while Kasey Kahne finished 40th at Bristol to fall to 14th. ... Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Burton can all clinch spots in the Chase this weekend.
Next race: Chevy Rock & Roll 400, Sept. 6, Richmond, Va.

NASCAR Nationwide
Camping World 300Site: Fontana, Calif.
Schedule: Saturday, qualifying (Speed Channel, 5:30 p.m.), race (ESPN2, 9:45 p.m.).
Track: Auto Club Speedway (D-shaped oval, 2 miles, 14 degrees banking in turns).
Race distance: 300 miles, 150 laps.
Last race: Brad Keselowski passed Clint Bowyer with 24 laps to go and pulled away for his second victory of the season, capping a remarkable run from the 37th starting position to Victory Lane at Bristol Motor Speedway. Bowyer had dominated the race after slipping by Dario Franchitti for the lead on lap 107, but appeared to wiggle exiting the second turn on the 227th lap as Keselowski went past him.
Last year: Jeff Burton turned a late pit stop and fresh tires into a win in the Camping World 300. He passed Kyle Busch for the lead just eight laps from the end and pulled away to win by 2.859 seconds — about 12 car lengths — as Busch barely held off pole-winner Denny Hamlin for second place.
Fast facts: Keselowski moved within 122 points behind points leader Bowyer in the standings. Carl Edwards dropped to third, 241 points off the pace. ... Bowyer has finished in the top 10 in 21 of 26 races, but has won just once. ... Keselowski failed to finish in the top 30 in all four of his Nationwide starts at Auto Club Speedway. ... No California native has won a Nationwide race at Fontana. ... Tony Stewart won the first Nationwide race at Fontana on Feb. 23.
Next race: Emerson Radio 250, Sept. 5, Richmond, Va.
Indy Racing League
Detroit Belle Isle Grand PrixSchedule: Saturday, qualifying, 11:30 a.m.; Sunday, race (ABC, 3:30 p.m.).
Track: The Raceway at Belle Isle (street course, 2.096 miles, 13 turns).
Race distance: 188.64 miles, 90 laps.
Last race: Helio Castroneves, driving a hastily prepared backup car, snapped a 29-race winless drought at the Grand Prix of Sonoma. The win came five days after one of Team Penske's trucks caught fire during the long trek from its race shop in North Carolina to California, badly damaging the primary cars of Castroneves and Ryan Briscoe. The teammates then drove to a 1-2 finish.
Last year: Tony Kanaan gambled and won the Detroit Indy Grand Prix. The Brazilian, the leader after a late restart, had enough fuel to win the shortened race and avoid a last-lap melee that collected Scott Dixon and Kanaan's Andretti Green Racing teammate Dario Franchitti. Danica Patrick avoided the wreckage to finish second.
Fast facts: Dixon suffered through one of his worst days of the season at Sonoma by finishing 12th. His lead in the standings shrunk from 78 points to 43 heading into this weekend's event, the penultimate points race of the season. ... Tony Kanaan and Dan Wheldon were both eliminated from championship contention after finishing third and fourth, respectively, at Sonoma. ... Venezuelan rookie E.J. Viso finished sixth at Sonoma, his best effort since a season-best fourth-place on the street circuit at St. Petersburg in the second race of the season. ... The Formula One (1982-88) and Champ Car (1989-2001) circuits once held events in Detroit. In 1992, the track was moved from downtown Detroit to Belle Isle Park, located approximately two miles east of the city.
