The University of Akron men's soccer team has moved up to No. 2 in the nation in the NSCAA/adidas pool, which was released Tuesday.
The Zips, winners of titles at the Indiana University Classic and the UA Tournament the past two weekends, were previously ranked No. 5 in the poll.
It is the program's highest ranking since 2005, when the Zips were No. 1 for four weeks.
Wake Forest (4-0-0) holds the No. 1 ranking. The Demon Deacons won the 2007 national championship. Creighton (3-0-0), Southern Methodist University (3-0-1) and Notre Dame (3-1-0) round out the top five.
California, Connecticut, Maryland, Boston College and Ohio State are ranked sixth through 10th.
The Zips (3-0-1) defeated West Virginia and Cincinnati this past weekend. UA beat Notre Dame and tied Indiana, now 19th, the previous weekend.
UA will play in the Nike Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., this weekend. The Zips play New Mexico on Friday at 9 p.m. and Missouri State on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
In other Zips news, sophomore forward Steve Zakuani was named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. He was also recently named to the College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer Teams of the Week, and earned the Offensive MVP of the UA Tournament.
Zakuani leads UA with three goals and two assists.
