• Wednesday — Gander Mountain, 4938 Portage St. N.W., Jackson Township, will host a free fly-fishing club that is open to the public. The fly-fishing club meeting begins at 7 p.m. Information: 330-498-0995.
• Saturday — There will be a fishing-lure seminar at Gander Mountain, 4938 Portage St. N.W., Jackson Township, at 1 p.m. The seminar is free. Call: 330-498-0995.
• Oct. 9 — The Goodyear Hunting & Fishing Club, 1221 Wingfoot Lake Road in Suffield Township, holds its meetings the second Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. New members are welcome. Contact: Bob Schilling, 330-882-4939.
• Oct. 13 — The Summit Sportsman's Association meets on the second Monday of the month at the Polish American Club on Dan Street at Glenwood Avenue in Akron from September through June. The club is a mixture of hunters and fishermen. Meetings start at 7:30 p.m. Guests are welcome. Information: 330-753-4453.
SHOOTS
• Sunday — Streetsboro Sportsman Association will host Sunday morning turkey shoots through Nov. 23. Each shoot is 10 a.m. to noon. The shot closest to the center can win cash, meat and prizes. Refreshments available. Shoots are on Nicodemus Road in Shalersville Township, one mile south of state Route 303. Information: 330-626-2115.
• Tuesday — The Portage-Summit Field and Stream Club, 8504 U.S. Route 224, Deerfield Township, hosts trapshoots every Tuesday through Oct. 30. Shoots are from 6 to 9 p.m. and are open to the public. Information: David Bencze, 330-650-3666.
• Tuesday — The North Lawrence Fish and Game Club, 15325 Lawmont St., Lawrence Township, will host trapshooting open to the public. • Friday — Lenape Trails Sportsman's Club in Mount Eaton hosts trapshoots open to the public. Similar dates: Oct. 10 and 24, and Nov. 7 and 21. Information: 330-695-9826.
• Saturday — Copley Trap Range, 1665 Jacoby Road, Copley Township, will host a fall trapshooting league through Nov. 1. The league format is set up for novice and experienced shooters. You do not have to have a team to be able to participate. For additional info, call Brad Harker at 330-855-1174.
• Oct. 11-12 — Beaver Creek Sportsman Club, 1480 Washingtonville Road, Washingtonville, will host a 3-D archery target shoot. All ages and equipment welcome. The kitchen is open for Sunday shoots. Information: 330-427-1603.
HUNTER ED
Those purchasing an Ohio hunting license for the first time must complete the hunter education course. Additionally, Ohio hunters seeking licenses in other states may be required to show proof that they completed such a course. No charge. Information: 800-WILDLIFE.
Portage County — Portage-Summit Field and Stream Club is hosting a hunter education course from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 27 and 28. The club is located on the south side of U.S. 224, 1.5 miles west of Deerfield traffic circle, or 0.7 mile east of the U.S. 224 and state Route 225 intersection. The course is free and those interested are asked to register by calling 800-WILDLIFE. Students are asked to bring a lunch.
• Stark County — A hunter education class will be 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 6, 7, 13 and 14 at the North Industry Christian Church, 4235 45th St. S.W., Perry Township. Attendance at each session is necessary to complete the course. This seminar is free. To register, call 800-WILDLIFE.
• Portage County — Goodyear Hunting & Fishing Club, 1221 Wingfoot Lake Road, Suffield Township, will host a hunter education class from 1 to 7 p.m. Oct. 10 and 19. To pass the course, you must attend both classes. Register by Oct. 10. This free class is for all first-time hunters. For more information or to register, call 330-896-8197.

The Sunday class is noon to 4 p.m. at the City Park Pavilion, Annalane Drive, Streetsboro, while the Monday and Tuesday classes are 6 to 9 p.m. at City Hall, 9184 State Route 43, Streetsboro. This is a free course and open to a maximum of 40 hunters. Participants will learn about firearms, archery, safety and more and must attend all three sessions for certification. Register by calling 330-626-3802. Ed Humphreys from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources will teach the classes. The deadline to register is Thursday.
