Lee, Snyder carry Barberton to victory over Cloverleaf

Pettigrew's five TDs lead CVCA to win over Canton Timken

Senior running back Michael Lee and junior quarterback Kyle Snyder each rushed for a touchdown and Snyder passed for another to help host Barberton defeat Cloverleaf 24-10 in Suburban League football Friday night.

The Magics (3-5, 1-4) have now beaten the Colts (6-2, 3-2) two consecutive seasons.

Snyder opened the scoring with a 2-yard run in the first quarter. Barberton led 17-7 at halftime following a 1-yard run by Lee, who finished with 136 yards on 17 carries.

Senior receiver Thaddeus Ingol scored the Magics' final touchdown on a 76-yard reception from Snyder, who passed for 145 yards.

Colts senior Kyle Juszczyk and Keegan Conry hooked up for a 26-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.

Green 24, Revere 10 — Justin James rushed for 129 yards and a touchdown and Adam Spray returned a kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown as the host Bulldogs (3-5, 2-3 Suburban) upset the Minutemen (5-3, 2-3) for their second consecutive win. Revere's Zach Weidrick passed for 104 yards and a touchdown.

Tallmadge 35, Copley 7 — Senior Tyler Fortner rushed for 170 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Blue Devils (5-3, 3-2 Suburban) over the host Indians (1-7, 1-4). Craig Seisel caught a touchdown and rushed for another for Tallmadge.

Garfield 67, Firestone 13 — Junior Tyson Gulley scored four touchdowns and gained 322 total yards to lead the Golden Rams (6-2, 4-0 City) past the Falcons (0-8, 0-4) in a game played at Ellet. Gulley rushed for three touchdowns and 133 yards on seven carries, gained 77 yards on punt returns and accumulated 122 yards on kick returns — one for a 71-yard touchdown. Garfield senior Jordan Wells gained 69 yards on nine carries and scored two touchdowns.

East 28, Kenmore 22 — Senior Mikey Bickley caught four touchdown passes from senior Michael Mosley to lead East (3-5, 2-2) past Kenmore (2-6, 0-4) in a City Series game at the Rubber Bowl. Bickley had had five receptions for 101 yards.

CVCA 55, Canton Timken 20 — Senior John Pettigrew scored five touchdowns to lead the host Royals (7-1, 4-1 PAC-7) past the Trojans (3-5, 2-3). CVCA scored 35 points in the fourth quarter. Pettigrew rushed for four touchdowns and gained 202 yards on 19 carries, intercepted two passes — one returned 52 yards for a touchdown — and forced a fumble. CVCA sophomore Alex Utley rushed for two touchdowns and gained 109 yards on 12 carries. Timken senior Kendrick Gooden passed for three touchdowns.

Walsh Jesuit 35, Cleveland Benedictine 21 — Cameron Ontko rushed for 124 yards and three touchdowns and the Warriors (5-2) rolled over the visiting Bengals (3-5). Walsh quarterback Kyle Snyder rushed for 158 yards and a touchdown. The Warriors totaled 359 yards on the ground.

Nordonia 24, Stow 12 — Senior Luke Batton rushed for two touchdowns and gained 110 yards on nine carries to lead the host Knights (6-1, 2-1 NOC River) past the Bulldogs (2-6, 0-3). Knights senior John Hamilton rushed for a touchdown and senior Charles Williams intercepted two passes.

Strongsville 25, Brunswick 20 — The visiting Blue Devils (6-1, 2-1 NOC Valley) had their 32-game regular-season winning streak snapped with the loss to the rival Mustangs (7-1, 3-0). Mustangs senior Kellen Pagel, son of former Browns quarterback Mike Pagel, threw three touchdown passes. Seniors Britt Musal and Ricky Manco each rushed for a touchdown for Brunswick, which last lost to Strongsville in 2004.

Mayfield 35, Cuyahoga Falls 0 — Tim Wetzel rushed for three touchdowns to lead the Wildcats (7-1, 3-0 NOC River) over the Black Tigers (2-6, 1-2).

Garrettsville 27, Streetsboro 25 — Seniors Joe Collins and Jared Gerez made a tackle in the end zone as time expired for a game-winning safety and an exciting G-Men (5-3, 3-2 PTC County) win over the host Rockets (5-3, 3-2).

Rockets senior Carrington Hanna, who rushed for two touchdowns and threw for another, was scrambling to make a play and in the process lost 40 yards.

''It was the most insane thing I have seen or been around in football,'' G-Men coach Steve Wyllie said of the play, which included a fumble.

G-Men senior Jon Hartman rushed for three touchdowns.

Mogadore 35, Windham 6 — Jake McAvinew rushed for two touchdowns and caught another to lead the Wildcats (8-0, 5-0 PTC County) over the host Bombers (1-6, 1-4). Chad White threw three touchdown passes and the Wildcats' defense held the Bombers to 181 total yards.

Woodridge 48, Rootstown 7 — Junior Anthony Kelly rushed for 207 yards and three touchdowns as the host Bulldogs (4-4, 2-3 PTC County) routed the Rovers (1-7, 1-4).

Ravenna 42, Coventry 0 — Blayre Davis rushed for three touchdowns and passed for another to lead the Ravens (6-2, 4-1 PTC Metro) over the Comets (2-6, 2-3). Davis totaled 192 yards on the ground and Ravens freshman D.J. Jones scored his first high school touchdown. Coventry running back Phil Geiger rushed for 105 yards.

Crestwood 30, Norton 21 — Senior running back Eric Head rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Red Devils (2-6, 2-3 PTC Metro) over host Norton (3-7, 1-4).

Kent Roosevelt 48, Springfield 21 — Junior Denerio Bryant caught three touchdown passes from sophomore Evan Shimensky to lead the Rough Riders (6-2, 5-0 PTC Metro) past the host Spartans (0-8, 0-5). Shimensky rushed for two touchdowns and passed for 186 yards. Roosevelt junior Marcus Rogers gained 123 rushing yards on eight carries and scored a touchdown.
