The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled right wing Derek Dorsett from the club's AHL affiliate in Syracuse, N.Y. Blue Jackets General Manager Scott Howson announced the move. Dorsett, 21, has one goal, one assist and 56 penalty minutes in 10 games with the Blue Jackets this season. He ranked among the NHL leaders in penalty minutes before he was sent down two weeks ago. He scored his first NHL goal — the game-winner — against Vancouver on Oct. 21.
LAME DUCK — Anaheim Ducks defenseman Francois Beauchemin underwent surgery Thursday to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. He is expected to be sidelined for six months. He was hurt Nov. 14 during a 4-3 overtime loss to Nashville. He will be placed on long-term injured reserve. Beauchemin had four goals and one assist in 18 games this season and was tied for the second-most playing time on the team.
KNEE SURGERY — St. Louis Blues defenseman Erik Johnson, out for the season after injuring his knee during a preseason team golf outing in September, had surgery to repair a damaged ligament. Johnson, the first overall pick of the 2006 draft, is expected to be ready for training camp next season. He tore two ligaments when his foot got stuck in a golf cart.
ON THE MEND — The Washington Capitals played without Alexander Semin in its 6-4 win over Anaheim on Wednesday. Semin missed his second consecutive game because of an undisclosed upper-body injury. Sergei Fedorov missed his sixth straight with a sprained ankle, as did Shaone Morrisonn because of a groin injury.
