COLUMBUS: Longtime Columbus TV sportscaster Jimmy Crum, known for both his loud sportcoats and his charitable work, has died. He was 80.
Daughter Kelly Delaveris says Crum died of apparent natural causes Monday night at home at a Columbus retirement community.
Born James W. Crum on Oct. 21, 1928, he was known as ''Jimmy'' during his nearly half a century with WCMH-TV in Columbus. He joined the station shortly after its launch in 1949 and retired in 1994. Crum served as sports director for much of his time with the station.
Crum once said there may have been better sportscasters but it was his community service that extended his career more than anything. He helped to raise millions of dollars for charities, particularly those helping children with disabilities.

I remember Jimmy fondly and I extend my thanks to his family for his life. I grew up listening to Jimmy call the Luke Witte era Ohio State games. Always the highpoint of a great basket or play was the "HOW ABOUT THAT, SPORTS FANS?" call. I imitated that so much that a friend inscribed a deck of cards (his Junior Achievement project) with those words for a birthday gift to me. So a fond farewell to one of the greats. He was one of a kind!

Jimmy was without a doubt the # 1 sportscaster in Central Ohio and the # 1 supporter of Ohio State basketball.I enjoyed his enthusiasm and "Barn Burner tonight Fans" comments. I had the pleasure to work several games with him as his statitician during the Lucas /Havilacek, Seigfried era and later years in the Gary Bradds, and Steve Howell era.... He was the VERY BEST, and his support and work in the community is legendary..
