CALENDAR
• Today — Stark Parks will host a Night Fishing Derby at Sippo Lake Park, 5300 Tyner St. NW, Perry Township. Cost is $5 to fish. Registration begins at 5 p.m. The derby begins at 6 p.m. and ends at midnight. The tournament is open to all ages, but anglers younger than 16 must be under the supervision of a parent or guardian who stays with them during the entire event. Prizes will be awarded for those who catch the longest catfish, bass, carp, crappie and bluegill. Winners must be present at the end of the derby when prizes are awarded. Fishing will be allowed along the eastern shoreline and on the docks at Sippo Lake Park. A valid fishing license will be required for everyone 16 years of age and over. Licenses are available at Sippo Lake Marina, as well as bait, food and beverages. Tournament participants may bring their own lanterns or flashlights. Call: 330-477-3552.
• July 18 — The Cleveland Browns' Joe Thomas hosts his first Celebrity Fishing Derby from 9 a.m. to noon at the Westlake Recreation Center in Westlake. The event is free for children ages 5 to 15. Children receive a free fishing rod and reel along with a T-shirt courtesy of Thomas. Held in conjunction with the Ohio Wildlife Association, the derby will be held rain or shine. Lunch will be available. Prizes will be awarded and young anglers will receive a certificate for completing the four stations of the Passport to Fishing program. • July 18 and 19 — Waterfowlers Bootcamp will be held at the Cardinal Center just off Interstate 71, 20 minutes north of Columbus. This two-day event features vendors, raffles, seminars and activities for outdoor enthusiasts and waterfowl hunters. Daily admission and parking is free. Information, including a show and seminar schedule, is available at http://www.waterfowlbootcamp.org. • July 19 — The Portage-Summit Field & Stream Club, 8504 U.S. 224, Deerfield Township, holds its meetings on the third Sunday of each month. • Aug. 1 — The Medina County Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation is sponsoring a Women in the Outdoors event at Hill 'n Dale Club, 3605 Poe Road, Montville Township. This event is from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and includes breakfast, lunch, a NWTF magazine subscription and four classes. Cost is $45. Classes include yoga, fencing, wine making, handgun, gourd birdhouses, photography and archery. This is a chance to try different activities in a noncompetitive environment. • Saturday — Beaver Creek Sportsman Club, 11480 Washingtonville Road, Washingtonville, will have a 3-D archery shoot from noon to 3 p.m. The kitchen is not open for Saturday shoots. All ages and equipment, including traditional, compound and cross bow, are welcome. Call: 330-921-9364.
• Sunday — Beaver Creek Sportsman Club, 11480 Washingtonville Road, Washingtonville, hosts 3-D archery shoots on the second Sunday of each month. Shoots are 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. The kitchen is open for Sunday shoots. All ages and equipment, including traditional, compound and cross bow, are welcome. Contact: Troy Todd at 330-921-9364.
• Tuesday — Trap shoots will be at the Portage-Summit Field & Stream Club, 8504 U.S. 224, Deerfield Township, from 6 to 9 p.m. The Tuesday shoots will be held through October.
