Senior tailback Erick Howard rushed for three touchdowns to guide the host Vikings (1-0) to a 34-6 victory over the Colts (0-1) Friday night in a game that was called after three quarters because of lightning.
Howard, the reigning Mr. Football for Ohio, gained 137 yards on 18 carries.
Hoover senior quarterback Brett Tulodzieski tossed two touchdown passes, one to senior Justin Simm and one to junior Joey Housos.
The Vikings led 20-6 after the first quarter and 34-6 at halftime.

Walsh Jesuit 21, Newark Licking Valley 0 Senior Cameron Ontko rushed a touchdown and had a touchdown reception to lead the host Warriors (1-0) to victory in a game called after two quarters because of lightning.
Rootstown 46, Sebring McKinley 0 Senior tailback Tyler Williams gained 108 yards on 13 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead the host Rovers (1-0) over the Trojans (0-1) in a game that was called in the third quarter because of lightning.
Both coaches agreed to call the game with just over five minutes left in the third quarter.
Rootstown senior tailback David Litsinger scored a touchdown and gained 59 yards on four attempts.
Rovers sophomore quarterback Kyle Ringler threw two touchdown passes, one to senior fullback Chad Hamilton and one to senior receiver Jon Park.
Hamilton also gained 54 yards on nine carries.
Louisville 28, Ravenna 0 Junior Preston Massey scored two touchdowns to lead the Leopards (1-0) over the Ravens (0-1) in a nonleague game.
Massey scored on a 3-yard run in the first quarter and a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter and finished with 45 yards rushing. The Leopards scored in the second quarter when Joe Stoffer caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Bobby Swigert.
The Louisville defense held the Ravens to six first downs, 20 yards rushing and 44 yards passing.
Late Thursday
Massillon 42, Buchtel 20 Senior quarterback Robert Partridge passed for four touchdowns to lead the host Tigers (1-0) over the Griffins (0-1). Tigers junior Devin Smith had two touchdown receptions and junior Jacar Roberson rushed for one touchdown and had a touchdown reception.
Buchtel junior quarterback Steven Parker threw two touchdown passes to junior receiver Corey Smith. Parker also rushed for a touchdown. The Griffins outgained the Tigers in total yardage 378-370.
Massillon led 21-0 after the first quarter, 21-7 at halftime and 35-7 after three quarters.
