Broken rib could sideline McNabb

Quarterback doubtful Sunday in Vick debut against Kansas City

Associated Press

Donovan McNabb could have a sideline view for Michael Vick's debut.

McNabb is doubtful to play Sunday when the Philadelphia Eagles host the Kansas City Chiefs because of a broken rib. Kevin Kolb will make his second consecutive start if McNabb can't go. No matter who's under center, Vick will play his first regular-season game in 33 months.

''We put some things in for him,'' coach Andy Reid said Friday. ''He will be up and we'll go from there.''

Vick is expected to run Philadelphia's version of the wildcat offense. He might take a few snaps at quarterback and line up as a receiver or running back.

McNabb, injured in the season opener at against the Carolina Panthers, missed last Sunday's 48-22 loss to the New Orleans Saints. He didn't practice this week and it's likely he'll be held out against the Chiefs (0-2). Philadelphia has a bye next week, which would allow McNabb extra time to heal.

McNabb may be joined on the sideline by running back Brian Westbrook (ankle) and wide receiver Kevin Curtis (knee). Westbrook is questionable and Curtis is doubtful.

Reid confirmed the Eagles worked out four-time Pro Bowl linebacker Jeremiah Trotter on Thursday. Trotter, 32, hasn't played since 2007 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Knee problems curtailed his career.

Brown fined $10,000

Eagles cornerback Sheldon Brown was fined $10,000 by the league for wearing a Halloween mask during pregame introductions last Sunday.

Brown ran onto the field wearing a mask similar to what the character Jason wore in the Friday the 13th movies. He had two interceptions in the season opener at Carolina and may have been trying to make a statement that he's far from finished.

Nelson doubtful

Buffalo Bills rookie tight end Shawn Nelson didn't practice Friday and is doubtful for Sunday's game against New Orleans because of a strained shoulder.

If Nelson doesn't play, the Bills will be down to two tight ends, Derek Fine and Jonathan Stupar.

Reserve defensive lineman John McCargo is also doubtful after missing Friday's practice because of a calf injury. Receiver Josh Reed and cornerback Terrence McGee are both questionable because of ankle injuries.

Starting center Geoff Hangartner (back), cornerback Leodis McKelvin (fibula) and receiver Roscoe Parrish (quad) are probable.

Around the league

Running back Dainian Tomlinson (sprained right ankle) has been ruled out of the San Diego Chargers' home game against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. Also ruled out of Sunday's game is center Nick Hardwick, who had ankle surgery, and backup defensive end Travis Johnson (groin). . . . Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson says a pulled groin muscle will keep him out of Sunday's game at Philadelphia. . . . Dallas Cowboys running back Marion Barber's status for Monday night remains uncertain because of a left thigh injury. . . . New York Giants safety Kenny Phillips will miss the rest of the season with an injury to his left knee. The team also announced it was awarded safety Aaron Rouse off waivers from the Green Bay Packers. He was waived on Monday. . . . Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter (sore right hamstring) and guard Justin Smiley (shoulder injury) remained limited in practice Friday.
