Mr. Ocker:
It's back to the future, 1970s-style. Can anyone say Beene, Buskey and Spikes?

Ashburn, Va.
Dear Bob:
I can, but I don't want to.

Sheldon:
I think it would be a really interesting story to see what the Indians would look like if there were no trades and no free agents.
Sometimes I hear fans say that the people in charge of the draft and running the farm system are doing a poor job, which gives Mark Shapiro and Paul Dolan little to work with. I think they do a great job and that the Indians aren't winners because of Shapiro's trades and not spending money wisely.
Every year we have winning teams in Akron and Kinston. Where are those guys going? I started a list: Manny Ramirez, Jim Thome, Danys Baez, Marco Scutaro, Jhonny Peralta, CC Sabathia, Ed Mujica, Russell Branyan, Jeremy Sowers, Ryan Garko, Aaron Laffey, Brian Tallett, Kevin Kouzmanoff, and Victor Martinez.
Several all-stars there. I know I am missing some good players that you could remember. And we could afford to keep our own free agents if we stopped wasting money on guys like Jason Johnson, David Delluci, Aaron Boone, Jason Michaels and Mr. One Tool himself, Travis Hafner.

Dear Carl:
Nice try, but you are combining a couple of generations of players (Thome, Ramirez at the end of their careers, Laffey and Sowers at the beginning) to make one team. Moreover, at best you have a three-man rotation and a three-man bullpen of questionable ability.
Where are your everyday middle infielders, and who plays center field?
Every GM trades away guys who eventually have legitimate major-league careers. Obviously, Mark Shapiro has made some poor free-agent signings, but no team can exist totally on players produced in its farm system.

Sheldon:
I would like to address Mr. Dolan & Shapiro. I'm not sure why you are in this business. You have no desire to build a serious championship team. Progressive Field should be torn down and a smaller field built. That way, your loss of fans will not look so great.
Perhaps you should become car salesmen. I hear the Clunkers for Cash program was just reinstated.

Dear Melissa:
By any chance, are you being a wise guy (girl, woman)? And do you realize you are slandering car salesmen? You didn't even qualify it by using the overused slur about used car salesmen (Just kidding, guys. Some of my best friends are used car salesmen).
