Milwaukee Bucks guard Michael Redd is out for at least two weeks after straining a tendon in his left knee during the team's home opener. Redd tore two ligaments in the same knee Jan. 24 and missed the rest of last season. Redd scored nine points in 23 minutes against the Detroit Pistons on Saturday before leaving in the third quarter. Redd, 30, signed a contract after the 2004-05 season, but has struggled to stay healthy.
Celtics retain Rondo
Rajon Rondo has agreed to a five-year contract extension with the Boston Celtics, keeping the star point guard from entering the market as a restricted free agent after the season. The deal has yet to be signed but Rondo said that is just a formality. He has averaged 9.6 points per game and 5.8 assists over three-plus seasons in the NBA.
Mavericks aide arrested
Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Popeye Jones is free on bond after being arrested on a drunken-driving charge in Richardson, Texas. Officers said Jones declined a breath test. There was a minor struggle when police tried to arrest him and Jones was taken to the ground, causing facial cuts.
Wolves make moves
The Minnesota Timberwolves exercised contract options for next season on small forward Corey Brewer and power forward Kevin Love. The moves guarantee Brewer a $3.7 million salary in his fourth year and Love a $3.6 million salary in his third year. The Wolves declined a fourth-year option on center Oleksiy Pecherov.
Walton leaves ESPN
Hall of famer Bill Walton won't return as an NBA analyst for ESPN. Walton said that ''it is time to dedicate the rest of my life to service.'' He missed most of last season while recovering from back surgery. He had worked for ESPN since 2002.
