The Indians completed the trade that sent Kelly Shoppach to Tampa Bay Rays by acquiring right-hander Mitch Talbot on Monday.
Talbot, 26, is the player to be named that closes the book on the Dec. 1 deal in which the Tribe also sent cash to the Rays.
Last season, Talbot was limited to 10 starts at Triple-A Durham because of a sprained right elbow. He compiled a 4-4 record and 4.47 ERA, making two starts in the International League playoffs. The Houston Astros took Talbot in the second round of the 2002 draft, but he was traded to the Rays in 2006 for Aubrey Huff. He was named Triple-A Charlotte's Pitcher of the Year in 2007 and 2008. In addition to posting a 13-9 record and 3.86 ERA in 2008, Talbot appeared in three September games with the Rays. His change-up was rated best in the International League by Baseball America after the 2008 season.
Talbot has been added to the Indians' 40-man roster.
In other Tribe news, the club signed 32-year-old right-hander Saul Rivera to a minor-league contract that includes an invitation to big-league training camp.
In 245 major-league relief appearances with the Washington Nationals since 2006, Rivera has compiled a 13-15 record and 4.05 ERA. He split 2009 between the Nationals and Triple-A Syracuse, posting a 1-3 record and 6.10 ERA in 30 games with the Nationals and a 2-5 record and 3.55 ERA in 30 International League outings.

All this news in one day is so exciting that it makes me dizzy with anticipation.
I am confident that the acquisition of Talbot and Saul Rivera will give us what we need to steamroll through the ALC.
You so funny ;)...
Look out Yankees
Nice to see we are acquiring some washed up veterans.
