Whitney leads Aerosto victory over Curve

Whitney leads Aeros
to victory over Curve

Aeros 7, Curve 1 — Matt Whitney homered and drove in three runs to lead the Aeros over the host Altoona Curve in Altoona, Pa.

Whitney doubled in the second, hit a two-run home run in the seventh and scored three runs as the Aeros lit up Curve starter Derek Hankins.

Wyatt Toregas set the tone early with a solo home run in the second inning and Nathan Panther drove in a run in the second with a sacrifice fly.

While the offense heated up, Aeros pitcher Steven Wright cooled off the Curve and won his second game of the year. Wright allowed one run on five hits and struck out six in five innings. Relievers Reid Santos and Luis Perdomo combined for four innings of no-hit relief to preserve the win for Wright.

PLAYOFF TICKETS — With the Aeros holding a firm grasp on first place in the Eastern League Southern Division, the team will begin selling tickets for postseason games at Canal Park at 10 a.m. Friday.

Prices will be the same for both the best-of-five divisional series and championship series. Reserved seats will be $10 for adults; $8 for children 12 and under and seniors (60 and over). Bleacher seats also remain at $9 for adults; $7 for juniors and seniors.

Tickets can be bought at the Aeros team shop at Canal Park, by telephone at 330-253-5153 or 800-972-3767, or online at http://www.AkronAeros.com. The team shop, Infield Outfitters, is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays, with extended hours on home game days.

If the Aeros win the regular- season division crown, playoff games at Canal Park tentatively are scheduled for Sept. 3, 4 and (if necessary) 7. If the Aeros finish in second place, the home divisional games tentatively are scheduled for Sept. 5 and (if necessary) 6. All games would start at 7:05 p.m.

ROSTER MOVE — The Aeros sent right-hander Kevin Dixon to Class A Mahoning Valley on Tuesday to make room for righty J.D. Martin, who returned to Akron after a short stint at Triple-A Buffalo.

Martin appeared in three games for Buffalo, going 1-0 with a 1.13 ERA. In 22 games (three starts) for the Aeros this season, he is 7-3 with a 3.40 ERA.
