Aeros 5, SeaWolves 1
Carlos Moncrief and Tyler Holt led the Aeros’ offense to a 5-1 win over the SeaWolves in Erie, Pa., on Wednesday night to capture two out of three games and close a short road series.
Moncrief and Holt had back-to-back hits in the second inning to give the Aeros a 2-0 lead. A solo homer in the sixth inning by Cedric Hunter, his 12th, gave Akron a 3-1 advantage.
Holt started Akron’s two-run ninth by leading off the inning with his third single of the game, a hit to center. Hunter and Moncrief each went 2-for-4 as the Aeros tallied nine hits.
Matt Packer pitched seven innings for the Aeros and improved to 11-8. He lowered his ERA to 3.14 by allowing just three hits and one run. Packer struck out five batters and walked four.
The win snapped the left-hander’s three-game losing streak. The only run he allowed Wednesday was on a wild pitch in the fourth inning.
Relievers Trey Haley and Jose Flores each pitched one inning of one-hit, scoreless baseball.
The Aeros improved to 61-68 and have won five of the last six games. Erie fell to 68-61. The Aeros will host Binghamton at 7 tonight at Canal Park to begin a four-game series.
